JOB TITLE: MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN I
EXEMPT: NO
REPORTS TO: Crew Supervisor
JOB SUMMARY:
The Landscape Maintenance Technician I will be responsible for maintaining the landscape and grounds of industrial, commercial, residential, retail or public properties. This includes mowing turf areas, trimming plants, and basic care of garden equipment. The Landscape Maintenance Technician I will also maintain a constant watch for safety problems and notify their supervisor immediately of any unsafe working conditions or practices observed in the work area.
Level I: Applies basic skills while developing some specialized skills in procedure, operations, techniques, tools, materials, and/or equipment appropriate to landscape maintenance; performs routine and/or repetitive tasks; limited decision making required; generally, works under close supervision; has no or limited experience; work is performed from within specific limits of established procedures and/or defined instructions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Mowing lawns and turf areas
  • Trimming Plants
  • Removing Weeds
  • Cleaning
  • Basic care of garden equipment
  • Riding in company vehicle to job sites
  • Maintaining a constant watch for safety problems
  • Notifying supervisor immediately of unsafe working conditions or practices observed in the work area.

Additional Responsibilities:
  • Performing basic pruning skills as necessary
  • Using various hand tools to perform maintenance tasks
  • Following oral directions to successfully perform job duties
  • Reading a limited number of two and three-syllable words and recognizing similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers
  • Printing and speaking simple sentences
  • Adding and subtracting two-digit numbers and multiplying and dividing with 10's and 100's
  • Applying common sense understanding to carry out detailed oral and written instructions
  • Dealing with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations

  • Ability to follow oral direction
  • Knowledge and ability to use various hand tools
  • Able to learn the operation of mechanical equipment required for mowing, trimming, and cleaning

Physical Demands:
  • Standing, walking, using hands to fingers, handling, or feeling objects, tools or controls
  • Frequently reaching with hands and arms and stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling
  • Occasionally sitting and climbing or balancing
  • Regularly lifting and/or moving up to 10 pounds, frequently lifting or moving up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lifting or moving up to 50 pounds
  • Specific vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
