About This Role:
Prince William County is seeking an energetic and detail-oriented entry-level Communications Specialist to join the Communications and Engagement Office. This position supports a variety of communications initiatives designed to keep the public informed and engaged with county programs, services and priorities.
The ideal candidate is a creative communicator who is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and collaborating with multiple departments. This role offers an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in public sector communications, including social media management, content development, digital communications and community engagement.
Minimum Requirements:
  • High school diploma or G.E.D. and 2 years of internship or professional experience in communications, marketing, journalism, public affairs, or community engagement, including content creation for social media, websites, newsletters, or campaigns.

Preferences:
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, English, Public Administration, or related field

  • Graphic design and/or video editing experience using tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite or similar platforms.
  • Familiarity with local government or public sector communications.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and digital communication tools.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and design/editing tools.
  • Special Requirement

  • May occasionally be required to work evenings or weekends to support county events, meetings, emergency communications or special initiatives.

Work Schedule:
  • Typically, Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m., with occasional evening and weekend hours based on operational needs, community events or emergency response activities.

Hiring Salary Range:
$25.44/hour - $36.98/hour
