Entry Level Graphic Design Student information

What is an entry level graphic design student?

Entry level graphic design students are individuals who are either currently studying graphic design or have recently completed a related program and are starting out in the field. They typically possess foundational skills in design principles, software like Adobe Creative Suite, and visual communication. These students often seek internships, freelance work, or junior designer positions to gain practical experience and build their portfolios. Entry level positions help bridge the gap between academic learning and professional work in the creative industry.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an entry level graphic design student?

To thrive as an Entry Level Graphic Design Student, a solid grasp of design principles, basic typography, color theory, and foundational knowledge in visual communication is essential, usually demonstrated through coursework or a developing portfolio. Familiarity with industry-standard tools such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) is typically required, and completion of relevant design courses or certifications can be advantageous. Creativity, attention to detail, openness to feedback, and strong time management are standout soft skills in this role. These abilities are crucial for producing high-quality designs, adapting to evolving project requirements, and succeeding in collaborative, deadline-driven environments.

What types of projects can an entry level graphic design student expect to work on in their first role?

As an entry level graphic design student, you can expect to work on a variety of foundational projects such as creating social media graphics, assisting with layout designs for brochures or flyers, and developing digital assets for websites. These tasks often involve collaborating with more experienced designers and receiving feedback to improve your technical and creative skills. It's common to work within a team environment where you'll learn about design workflows, file management, and client communication, all of which are essential for career growth in the field.

Account Manager / Inside Sales RepresentativeFASTSIGNS of Eugene (PKS Enterprises LLC) | In-Office Base Salary: $50,000–$60,000 + Uncapped Monthly Commission + Mileage Reimbursement
Are You Ready to Run Your Own Book of Business?
Do people trust you the moment they meet you? Do you remember every detail of a commitment and follow through without being asked twice? Have you ever wished your income actually reflected how hard you work — not a fixed number that never moves?
If so, we want to talk to you.
FASTSIGNS Eugene partners with business owners, architects, brand managers, and marketing executives to turn a vision into something people can actually see. Customers come to us with a picture in their head of what they're trying to accomplish — we bring it to life in signs, interior decor, architectural graphics, environmental branding, and comprehensive brand packages. We're a 20-person team ranked in the top 20 of 700+ FASTSIGNS locations worldwide, serving Eugene for over 10 years.
We're hiring an Account Manager. This is not an entry-level seat or a learn-as-you-go position. We need someone who can step in and own the full B2B customer relationship and sales cycle from day one: understanding what a client is trying to accomplish, working with our team to scope and quote it, converting the estimate to a signed order, writing the design brief, managing proof approval, and coordinating everything through to a completed, installed job and a satisfied customer. (This differs from our Customer Service Rep role, which handles walk-ins, counter service, and smaller jobs.)
You don't need sign or graphics industry experience — almost nobody walks in with that. You do need a track record of building real relationships, obsessive attention to detail, and the discipline to close every loop you open. We built this company from zero revenue ten years ago on a philosophy of promoting from within — our current sales manager, project manager, and one of our inside sales reps all started here and grew into leadership. That's the kind of company you'd join. Right now, we need someone ready to operate at this level immediately.
Compensation:
  • You won't start from zero — you'll immediately take over an existing book of business generating an estimated $400,000–$500,000 in annual revenue
  • Base salary: $50,000–$60,000/year
  • Commission: uncapped, paid biweekly. Year 1: expect $10,000–$20,000. Year 2+ is exponential.
  • Bonus: Team-based
  • Mileage reimbursement
We walk serious candidates through the commission math in detail.
Benefits: 50% employer-paid health & dental (individual), profit-sharing 401(k), ~3 weeks PTO plus 7 paid holidays (including half-day closures on New Year's Eve and Christmas Eve), logoed apparel provided.
What we need from you:
  • Able to work in our Eugene office every day (not remote/hybrid)
  • Valid driver's license (you'll drive a company vehicle at times)
  • Sharp, organized, detail-oriented — every project is custom
  • Prior experience in B2B sales, account management, or project management required — we need someone who can hit the ground running
We're not looking for just anyone — we're looking for someone who already believes they're one of the best, and wants to prove it where every project is custom, every relationship matters, and your income reflects your performance.
Is that you? Apply today online, then call Pete Knight-Sheen, Owner, at 541-255-0346 and let him know you applied.
