Engineering Technician - Construction Testing - Indianapolis, IN

Professional Service Industries, Inc. (Intertek-PSI) is a leading US based provider of construction assurance, testing and inspection in civil and commercial construction. Our broad service offering includes construction materials testing, geotechnical services, environmental engineering, industrial hygiene, and specialty testing.
What are we looking for?
The Engineering technician is responsible for performing materials testing and inspection services for commercial construction projects. This work generally includes the testing of concrete during placement and soil during the mass earthwork phase of projects. Additionally, the position will likely include some time in our laboratory performing other support tests on concrete and soil. This position will require travel to project sites, that are usually day trips, however some short term overnight travel is possible.
Shift/Schedule: The bulk of time for this position will be performed between the hours of 7 am to 5 pm, however some early morning assignments should be expected. Additionally, some weekend work should be anticipated. Generally, 1 Saturday per month.
Salary & Benefits Information
The base wage or salary range for this position is $18.50 - $23.00. Individual compensation packages are based on a variety of factors unique to each candidate including skill set, experience, qualifications, and other job-related reasons.

What you'll do:
  • Participate in sampling and perform field testing of concrete, soils, and asphalt during construction activities.
  • Prepare written reports summarizing test results and corresponding action items.
  • Communicate directly with clients, contractors, and the design team to report findings, schedule testing, and provide recommendations when needed.
  • Participate in monthly safety meetings and online safety training courses.
  • Pick up test samples that were either previously cast or stockpiled for sampling.

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma
  • Entry level position, no prior experience is required
  • Valid driver's license and reliable driving record is required.
  • Applicant should be physically able to work outdoors and maneuver a wheelbarrow of concrete several times during the course of a day.

Preferred Requirements & Qualifications:
  • BS Degree in an engineering field
  • 1+ experience
  • Engineering background through education is preferred but not required.
  • Other certifications, such as: ACI, NICET, or INDOT are also welcome but not required.
