Job description
Administers accurate ionizing radiation to patients in accordance with prescriptions and instructions of the Radiation Oncologist. May or may not be called upon to perform the duties of CT/Simulation Technologist.
Job Description
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Correctly identifies the patient using two identifiers. In house patients' wristbands are used as an identifier. Other identifiers are name, DOB, driver's license, and a patient photo.
- Delivers approved and accurate radiation treatment prescribed by the radiation oncologist.
- Checks for signed treatment consent by the patient or patient's representative and the attending physician.
- Performs morning warm up (calibration) on treatment machines.
- Verifies radiation treatment machine to be in working order (within machine tolerance levels). Documents the morning readings.
- Informs physicist and engineers of machine malfunctions.
- Has full knowledge of radiation equipment, malfunctions and erratic machine operation.
- Notifies physicist and/or engineer immediately when situation occurs.
- Interacts with co workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the core values of the Hospital
- High school graduate who has completed a 24 month course in radiological technology as well as a 12 month course in radiation therapy
- High school graduate who has satisfactorily completed a 24 month course in radiation therapy technology.
- It is mandatory that all therapists be certified and yearly registered in radiation therapy technology by the ARRT (T) or a holder of a current license as required by the state.
- Board eligible therapists must obtain ARRT board certification
- CPR Required
- Entry level with subsequent promotion to Senior Radiation Therapist after a minimum of three years of experience as a staff Radiation Therapist.
