Job Title: Application Engineer

Job Description

The Application Engineer plays a critical role in the design and application of specialized equipment, with a primary focus on steam control products. This position involves creating detailed CAD drawings, supporting the sales process with technical applications, and ensuring that designs meet performance, structural, and manufacturing requirements. The engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams and contribute to continuous improvement in tools, processes, and in-house equipment design.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize SolidWorks to create accurate drawings for both quotation and manufacturing purposes.
  • Collaborate with the sales team to produce application drawings that support customer orders and technical proposals.
  • Recommend and assist in sourcing and quoting components that are suitable for each specific application.
  • Develop and maintain libraries of technical work and standard components used in the creation of technical drawings.
  • Expand responsibilities over time to include the design and manufacturing of equipment in-house.
  • Conduct finite element analysis (FEA) to verify the structural integrity and performance of designs.
  • Apply knowledge of pumps and motors, including their relationship to pressures and flow within piping systems, to optimize design performance.
  • Review customer orders in coordination with sales, engineering, and manufacturing teams to ensure accuracy and manufacturability.
  • Continuously learn and develop tools, templates, and processes that improve engineering and drafting efficiency.
  • Perform other engineering and application-related duties as assigned.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
  • 2–5 years of experience in application engineering and/or design engineering.
  • Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience designing with SolidWorks.
  • Experience conducting FEA (finite element analysis) to validate designs.
  • At least 1 year of experience working with products involving sheet metal manufacturing processes, such as welding, laser cutting, and forming.
  • At least 1 year of experience working with pumps, motors, or HVAC-related products.
  • Proficiency with CAD software, particularly SolidWorks, DraftSight, and/or AutoCAD.
  • Strong understanding of sheet metal design and fabrication methods.
  • Knowledge of pump and motor design principles, including pressure and flow relationships in piping systems.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with sales, engineering, and manufacturing teams.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with steam control products or related systems.
  • Hands-on exposure to sheet metal manufacturing environments, including welding, laser cutting, and forming processes.
  • Familiarity with creating and maintaining CAD libraries and standard components.
  • Interest in expanding responsibilities into the design and manufacturing of in-house equipment.
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm for learning new tools and methods to improve efficiency.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to produce clear, accurate technical documentation.

Work Environment

This role is based on-site and involves close collaboration with sales, engineering, and manufacturing teams in a hands-on environment. The Application Engineer works extensively with CAD tools such as SolidWorks, DraftSight, and AutoCAD, and interacts regularly with sheet metal manufacturing processes, including welding, laser cutting, and forming. The position supports a setting focused on steam control products, pumps, motors, and HVAC-related equipment, where practical, detail-oriented engineering work is central to daily activities.
