They are typically early in their careers and work under the guidance of more experienced engineers. Their responsibilities often include troubleshooting technical issues, conducting routine maintenance, and ensuring customer satisfaction. This role usually requires travel to different locations and good communication skills, as they interact directly with clients. Entry level positions often provide on-the-job training to help new engineers gain the necessary technical expertise.

What are some of the most common challenges faced by an entry level field service engineer in their first year?

Entry Level Field Service Engineers often encounter challenges such as adapting to a fast-paced schedule, troubleshooting unfamiliar equipment, and managing travel to various client sites. Gaining confidence in diagnosing issues independently while maintaining strong communication with both customers and senior engineers is key. Over time, hands-on experience and mentorship from experienced team members help new engineers build technical expertise and improve their problem-solving skills, making these initial challenges valuable learning opportunities.

Job Opportunity: Field Service Controls Engineer with Fameccanica North America in West Chester, OHReady to launch your career in automation, controls, and robotics?

Fameccanica North America is seeking an entry-level Field Service Controls Engineer to join its growing team. This is an onsite, hands-on role focused on testing, validating, troubleshooting, and supporting automated manufacturing equipment.

In the beginning, this role will focus heavily on equipment testing and validation in Fameccanica's West Chester facility. The work will be repetitive by design and will involve following test procedures, troubleshooting issues, documenting results, and helping ensure equipment is ready before shipment. As skills develop, this role may grow into customer-site support, installation, commissioning, and field service responsibilities.

If you enjoy hands-on technical work, solving problems, and learning how automated equipment works from the ground up, this could be a great opportunity to grow your career.

What You'll Do:

  • Test and validate automated equipment, including conveyors, sensors, electrical components, and controls.
  • Follow checklists and test procedures to confirm equipment is operating properly.
  • Troubleshoot basic PLC, HMI, electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical issues.
  • Document testing results, service activity, and technical findings.
  • Support equipment commissioning and customer requirements.
  • Work alongside experienced engineers while learning Fameccanica systems.
  • Eventually support customer sites as responsibilities grow.

What We're Looking For:

  • Associate degree, technical certification, or related training in Robotics, Mechatronics, Industrial Automation, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a similar field.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude.
  • Interest in PLCs, controls, robotics, automation, or manufacturing equipment.
  • Strong desire to learn, grow, and build a long-term career in automation and field service.
  • Ability to follow processes, complete documentation, and troubleshoot problems.
  • Professional, calm, and customer-focused communication style.
  • Ability to work independently once trained while also being a strong team player.

Work Authorization & Travel Requirements:

  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • This is an onsite role based in West Chester, OH.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid U.S. passport.
  • Travel may increase over time as skills develop and responsibilities grow, potentially up to approximately 70%.

Why Fameccanica?

  • Learn automation, controls, robotics, and manufacturing systems from experienced engineers.
  • Join a growing global manufacturing and automation company.
  • Build a long-term career path from hands-on testing into field service and commissioning.
  • Gain exposure to advanced equipment, customer projects, and real-world troubleshooting.
