Job Summary

The Construction Fiber Project Manager  is responsible for acting as the front-line project manager coordinating and supervising all fiber optic underground and overhead placing, fiber optic splicing & the associated fiber splicing reporting. Along with field meetings and adhering to all the safety and client standards, conducting safety inspections, observations, claims, investigations, and regulatory compliance for OSHA, DOT, and EPA. This position supports and compliments the field team and works with personnel across various departments.


Responsibilities
  • Availability to participate with other Project Manager, subcontractors, vendors and Clients to a preliminary walk through of the construction drawings.  
  • Provide supervision and planning in the successful completion of projects.
  • Have excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • MOT Coordination.
  • Provide daily completion fiber reporting and ArcGIS Collector App.
  • Ability to read and understand design schematics, maps and create red lines or As-builts.
  • Ensure all assigned personnel receive appropriate safety training.
  • Inspect workplace facilities, including tools, equipment, and machinery, to identify and correct deficiencies or potential hazards, and to ensure compliance with OSHA/DOT/MasTec Utility Services requirements.
  • Ensure tools, equipment, materials, vehicles, and technical instruments are fit-for-purpose, functional, calibrated, and the appropriate protective equipment, methods, guard, management systems are in place to reduce or eliminate the risk of employee injuries or illnesses.
  • Assist local management in the investigation of work-related incidents to determine cause and contributing factors.
  • Develop mitigation measures and corrective actions for the objective findings of observations and inspection deficiencies to reduce the risk of hazards from recurring within the organization.
  • Recommend safe work processes and demonstrate personal protective equipment safety features that will reduce employee exposure to workplace and environmental hazards.
  • Provide weekly Major materials utilization and inventory report.
  • Maintain inventory of Major Materials release until installed.
  • Ensure all restorations are complete as per jurisdiction requirements once construction is complete and schedule final inspections with City inspectors.

Qualifications

Minimum

  • A High School Diploma, or equivalent.
  • 3 years of construction & fiber Optic project management experience.
  • Advanced experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Intermediate experience in schedule management.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment handling multiple tasks.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Precise hand-eye coordination.
  • Clarify of vision at 20 feet or more and 20 inches or less, with the ability to judge distance and space relationships.
  • Ability to identify and distinguish colors.
  • Ability to read blueprints accurately.
  • Ability to communicate progress, highlight issues, and provide recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Safety training and knowledge of OSHA requirements.

 

Fiber optic Qualifications for installation, splicing, and testing:

  • Fiber Route analysis, and route review. Field site survey.
  • Review detailed OSP industry standard engineering for underground and overhead fiber installation & fiber optic termination and/or splicing.
  • Fiber Optic Testing:
    • Splicing and termination, end-to-end bidirectional testing and documented for all fiber optic cable installed.
  • End to End Attenuation.
  • OTDR Tracing.
  • OLT Testing.
  • Splice Loss Testing.
  • Connector Loss Testing.
  • Update documents on GIS As built.

Physical Demands and Work Environment 

This job operates in a field environment. This role routinely requires extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, lifting in awkward positions, standing, and twisting. Also, working in inclement weather conditions, such as extreme heat, extreme cold, rain, ice, snow, and wind.  

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. This position is physically active, with lifting required. Must be able to bend and lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Clarity of vision at 20 feet or more or 20 inches or less, with the ability to judge distance and space relationships. Precise hand-eye coordination. Ability to identify and distinguish colors.
