Manufacturing Technician – Fiber Optics

Industry: Aerospace Manufacturing

Schedule: Monday–Thursday, 7:00 AM–4:00 PM; Friday, 7:00 AM–2:00 PM

Pay Rate:$24.00+/hour

Position Summary

The Manufacturing Technician – Fiber Optics supports the manufacturing, testing, troubleshooting, and inspection of fiber optic products and equipment used in aerospace applications. The technician works closely with Engineering, Quality, Production, and Maintenance to ensure products and processes meet strict aerospace, quality, and production requirements.

Essential Duties
  • Operate, set up, and troubleshoot fiber optic manufacturing equipment and test systems.
  • Perform optical testing using power meters, light sources, OTDRs, microscopes, and related equipment.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, specifications, and work instructions.
  • Perform optical, visual, and dimensional inspections.
  • Troubleshoot equipment, process, and product issues and assist with corrective actions.
  • Analyze test results and accurately document testing, inspection, and production data.
  • Assist with equipment calibration, preventive maintenance, and process improvements.
  • Identify defects, contamination, and nonconforming conditions.
  • Support Engineering and Quality with testing, troubleshooting, and process development.
  • Maintain material traceability and follow aerospace quality, ESD, cleanliness, and safety procedures.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous experience in fiber optics, electronics, precision manufacturing, or aerospace manufacturing.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings, schematics, and technical documentation.
  • Experience using technical test and measurement equipment.
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills.
  • Ability to follow detailed technical procedures and accurately document work.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a manufacturing team.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with fiber optic testing and manufacturing.
  • Experience with OTDRs, optical power meters, microscopes, or similar equipment.
  • Experience with fiber optic connectors, cables, and optical components.
  • Experience with equipment setup, calibration, and troubleshooting.
  • Aerospace manufacturing experience strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with AS9100, ISO, ESD, and contamination-control requirements.
