The primary purpose of this position is technical and operational support of: the entire UNCSA campus data communications network (wired and wireless), optical fiber and copper-based cable plant, network management software tools, network hardware interconnectivity, network security policy enforcement, end user connectivity needs, future network design changes, new equipment evaluations and installations, and technology consultation for new construction projects.

Description of Responsibilities and Duties
• This position shall possess and maintain the product knowledge and technical skills necessary for planning and executing the selection, installation, configuration, testing and troubleshooting of Local Area Networks (LAN), Wide Area Networks (WAN), wireless networks, layer 3 switches, IP telephony, emergency notification devices, and/or related networking equipment for fast, secure, and reliable operation, install and support UNCSAs LANs, WAN, network segments, Internet, and intranet systems Routing, Switching, VLANs, and Intervlan Interfaces
• Assist in network design and implementation, Perform Network Address Assignment, Onboard users to the network
• Secure networks by defining, monitoring, and enforcing network usage policies and access rules
• Configuration of Access Control List on Cisco switches when needed
• Configuration and monitoring of Cisco Firepower Firewalls
• Configuration and monitoring of Cisco ISE (Identity Services Engine)
• Configuration and monitoring of Cisco Umbrella (DNS Layer Security)
• Configuration and monitoring of Cisco Stealthwatch (Network detection and response)
• Configuration and monitoring of Splunk and the security events that are ingested into the system
• Install and configure computer network equipment, maintain network connectivity of all computer workstations, laptops, tablets, etc. Ensure network connectivity throughout UNCSA's LAN/WLAN/WAN infrastructure is on par with technical considerations
• This position will provide general data communications support for all new campus data connections, including layer 3 switches, routers, firewalls, wireless access points, emergency speakers, security cameras, patch panels, desktop connections to wall outlets, and interconnections between network peripherals.
• Monitor network to ensure optimal performance, both wired and wireless
• Determine network and system requirements. Analyze and isolate issues.
• This position will provide secondary support and assistance in the review, selection, implementation, and maintenance of core infrastructure systems, including, but not limited to: local user and network connection databases, IP telephony, voice mail, and wireless network mapping. This position will assist other programmers, analysts, and system administrators when implementing additional network services or integrating systems into the primary enterprise computing environment.
• Provide frontend VoIP setup, support, and troubleshooting-train users on VoIP hardware and software.
• Provide network support to users. Troubleshoots and resolves networking issues. Design and deploy networks.
• Create network diagrams and documentation for design and planning network communication systems
• Monitor network to ensure optimal performance. Test release of products to minimize user impact and ensure compatibility.
• This position is responsible for the development and execution of industry security standards as they relate to the core infrastructure and as supported by adopted departmental policy. This position shall follow industry standards and best practices to ensure the security of user accounts, operating systems, applications, communications, data, etc.
• Create and maintain network users/permissions. Evaluate and recommend security improvements and system upgrades.
• Develop and monitor policies for the use of network resources. Create technical support documentation for systems and applications.
• This position is responsible for learning and improving upon the skills necessary to stay competitive in the field and current with the advances in technology. This position will participate in conferences, seminars, certification programs, etc., as applicable to ensure continued skill development and technical competency.

Minimum Qualifications
Entry-level with Masters; or Bachelor's degree and 0-2 yrs experience;
or equivalent experience and education
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field; or equivalent education/experience
2+ years experience in a network administration role
Network security experience
Ability to implement, administer, and troubleshoot network devices, including Meraki Wireless Infrastructure, Network Admission Control, and Next-Generation Firewalls.
Experience using the following Cisco products: Catalyst IOS and Nexus switches, FTD Firewall and VPN, ISE, IP telephones, Umbrella, Stealthwatch, and Wireless Infrastructure
Splunk
Prior Experience with Microsoft Windows Server 2008, 2012, and 2016
Prior Experience with VMWare networking
CCNA, or CCNP certification (would be a plus)
