Job description

The Role:
This position grinds and smooths surfaces of manufactured parts prior to finishing operations. This entry level position requires strong communication, interpersonal and team building skills to support the organization.
Essential Functions
  • Examines and feels surface of workpiece for defects.
  • Selects grade of abrasive belt, wheel, or disk according to specifications, knowledge of abrasives and condition of metal and attaches to grinder.
  • Starts grinder and moves it over surface of part to remove scratches, rust and burrs.
  • Polishes ground area with finer abrasive to produce a smooth, unmarred surface.
  • Replaces worn abrasive disks, wheels and belts.
  • Operate lift truck with certification.
  • Other duties assigned due to the need of the business.

Physical/Environmental Requirements
  • Manufacturing environment: may be exposed to loud noises, machinery with moving parts.
  • Bending, stooping, twist, turn, standing for extended time periods, reaching, climbing stairs, and lifting up to 50lbs occasionally.

Skills and Abilities
  • Good communication skills and ability to work in a multi-discipline team environment.
  • Ability to execute agreed tasks and deadlines against performance criteria (KPI)
