Epic ClinDoc/Orders Consultant - Remote - EST Hours
Project Details

We are partnering with a prominent health system in North Carolina seeking an experienced Epic ClinDoc/Orders Consultant to support both strategic project initiatives and ongoing Business As Usual (BAU) operational work during an initial three-month engagement with the potential for extension. This consultant will serve as an extension of the clinical applications team, supporting multiple concurrent projects while ensuring day-to-day production support, optimization, and enhancement requests continue to move forward.
The ideal candidate will be comfortable balancing competing priorities, working independently, and collaborating with clinical and technical stakeholders across the organization. Experience supporting Epic ASAP is highly preferred, as this resource may assist with emergency department-related initiatives and integrated clinical workflows.
Project Details
This consultant will provide Epic ClinDoc and Orders support across multiple assigned projects while maintaining ongoing operational responsibilities in this hospital's production environment. Responsibilities will include application build, workflow optimization, issue resolution, testing, implementation support, and collaboration with operational leaders to improve clinical documentation and ordering workflows.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Support multiple concurrent Epic ClinDoc and Orders projects from design through implementation.
  • Provide ongoing BAU support, including production issue resolution, optimization requests, and enhancement work.
  • Build, maintain, and optimize clinical documentation components including SmartForms, SmartTexts, SmartPhrases, SmartLists, navigators, flowsheets, and documentation templates.
  • Build, maintain, and optimize provider orders, order sets, preference lists, and associated workflows.
  • Participate in workflow analysis, requirements gathering, solution design, build, testing, and implementation activities.
  • Troubleshoot application issues and provide timely break/fix support.
  • Coordinate and execute unit, integrated, and user acceptance testing.
  • Participate in change management, release planning, and deployment activities.
  • Collaborate with clinicians, operational leaders, and technical teams to identify workflow improvements and optimization opportunities.
  • Ensure application build aligns with Duke Health governance standards, Epic best practices, and regulatory requirements.
  • Support Epic upgrades, enhancements, and ongoing maintenance activities.

Required Qualifications
  • Active Epic ClinDoc Certification.
  • Active Epic Orders Certification.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of Epic ClinDoc and Orders build experience.
  • Experience supporting BAU operations within a live Epic environment.
  • Strong understanding of clinical documentation workflows and provider order management.
  • Experience supporting multiple simultaneous projects while maintaining operational support responsibilities.

Nice-to-Have Qualifications
  • Experience supporting Epic ASAP.
  • Experience working in large, integrated healthcare systems.
  • Previous healthcare IT consulting experience.
