Position: Environmental Laboratory Analyst I (Laboratory Technician)

Position Overview
The Environmental Laboratory Analyst I (Laboratory Technician) supports environmental testing operations by receiving, preparing, and processing samples in accordance with EPA, ASTM, and regulatory protocols. This entry-level role is ideal for candidates with science-based education who are seeking hands-on laboratory experience in a regulated environment.
The position requires a strong safety mindset, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with laboratory staff and plant personnel.
Key Responsibilities
Safety & Compliance
- Work safely and identify/implement corrective actions for unsafe conditions
- Follow OSHA laboratory safety requirements (29 CFR 1910)
- Maintain compliance with EPA, ASTM, and other regulatory protocols
Sample Receiving & Processing
- Receive and log environmental samples into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
- Handle and prepare inorganic and organic samples for analysis
- Preserve samples as required (e.g., acid preservation, proper storage conditions)
- Support coordination of sample sub-contracting (sub-outs) when necessary
Laboratory Testing & Support
- Assist with wet chemistry testing (pH, ammonia, alkalinity, turbidity, etc.)
- Prepare samples using approved analytical methodologies
- Support Laboratory Analysts as needed during testing activities
Documentation & Administration
- Maintain accurate records in LIMS and other data systems
- Perform peer review of data entry
- Order and maintain appropriate sample bottles and containers
- Manage laboratory supplies and inventory
- Perform routine laboratory housekeeping
Customer & Team Support
- Assist customers with sample container orders
- Communicate with customers to clarify analysis requests
- Coordinate with internal and external work groups to ensure timely and accurate processing
Required Qualifications
- 0–5 years of laboratory or related experience
- Some college coursework required (Science-based studies preferred)
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a science-related field preferred
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively with plant personnel and cross-functional teams
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc.)
- Experience using LIMS or similar laboratory data systems preferred
Preferred Experience
- Experience in a NELAC-accredited or highly regulated laboratory environment
- Experience in high-volume sample receiving departments
- Wet chemistry laboratory experience
- Knowledge of EPA and ASTM testing protocols
