The Department of Economics teaches students to develop the analytical and statistical skills needed to understand how markets work, how prices are determined and how trade policies are designed. With courses on everything from government regulation to the economics of crime, our undergraduate majors and minors explore the economic underpinnings of countless social, governmental and international issues. Our graduate students publish in top-tier research journals and pursue prestigious careers around the world. We have 35 full-time faculty who teach courses, conduct research, and plan an exciting schedule of weekly seminars on economics topics during the academic year.
Position Specific Summary
The Department of Economics seeks work-study students to assist faculty and 3 full-time staff members with administrative and clerical tasks. Tasks may include photocopying, assembling course materials, answering the main phone, greeting visitors, receiving deliveries, directing students to professors' offices, scanning department documents, troubleshooting the department's copier, and light set-up for department events. Students must be able to work during the hours of 9am-5pm on Mondays - Fridays according to shifts based around the student's course schedule. Students must maintain a professional demeanor and may wear casual clothing that is acceptable for an office setting.
Standard Position Description
The student will serve as an administrative assistant and perform tasks to support the operations of the the office or department. Tasks may include: assembling materials, filing, photocopying, giving directions or information, responding to phone or email inquiries, scanning and/indexing documents, light data entry, and other general office tasks. Special projects or duties may be assigned related to specific office needs.
