Job Summary

The Laboratory Technician is responsible for performing materials testing and documentation across Asphalt, Soils, and Concrete disciplines in support of FDOT-compliant construction projects. This hands-on role works closely with field inspectors, project engineers, and plant personnel to ensure material quality and specification compliance. This position offers a clear pathway to grow into an Asphalt Plant Inspector role for motivated individuals.


Key Responsibilities

• Perform standardized laboratory and field tests on soils, and concrete materials in accordance with FDOT, AASHTO, and ASTM standards.

• Accurately document test results.

• Maintain, calibrate, and inspect laboratory equipment to ensure accuracy and compliance.

• Enter test data into laboratory Information management software.

• Identify and report any deviations, non-conformances, or quality concerns.

• Adhere to safety protocols and environmental compliance requirements.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; associate or technical degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or related field preferred.

• 0–3 years of experience in construction materials testing or laboratory work; entry-level candidates with relevant coursework or internships are encouraged to apply.

• Basic knowledge of FDOT, AASHTO, and ASTM testing standards is a plus.

• Current or in-progress CTQP certifications preferred (e.g., Concrete Field Testing Technician, Earthwork Construction Inspection Level I, Asphalt Paving Level I).

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word); familiarity with FDOT MAC or LIMS systems is a strong plus.

• Strong attention to detail with good written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to work independently and in outdoor/plant environments under varying weather conditions.

• Valid driver's license required.



Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

• Ability to stand, walk, and perform physical tasks for extended periods in outdoor environments.

• Comfortable working in high-heat environments, including asphalt plant and field settings.
