Job description

NOVACES is seeking Junior Engineering / Installation Technicians to support the FAA's Radar System Replacement (RSR) program, the largest and most significant radar modernization effort within the National Airspace System (NAS). This entry-level position will provide hands-on installation support for cooperative, non-cooperative, and integrated surveillance systems at FAA facilities nationwide.

Work location: Travel Required (~75%)

Clearance: FAA Public Trust eligible. US Citizenship to successfully complete a government background investigation.

Summary

This role is designed for individuals beginning their careers in technical field installation and infrastructure deployment. The Junior Engineering / Installation Technician will perform physical, labor-intensive installation support activities under the direction of senior technicians, electricians, and construction managers. Tasks include material handling, equipment staging, cabling assistance, site cleanup, and general installation support.

The Junior Engineering / Installation Technician plays a critical role in ensuring installation teams can execute efficiently and safely at active radar sites. This position requires a strong work ethic, willingness to learn, ability to perform physically demanding work, and strict adherence to safety and site procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Support installation teams with hands-on field activities, including equipment movement, lifting, staging, and positioning.
  • Assist with unpacking, organizing, and distributing equipment and materials at installation sites.
  • Support basic installation tasks for racks, cabling, antennas, and grounding systems under supervision.
  • Perform routing, pulling, labeling, and securing of cables as directed by senior technicians.
  • Assist with site preparation, housekeeping, cleaning, and waste removal activities.
  • Support logistics activities, including equipment inventory checks and material tracking.
  • Assist installation teams during testing, startup, and acceptance activities as needed.
  • Take photographs and assist with daily and weekly installation status reporting.
  • Follow all safety, security, quality, and FAA operational requirements at all times.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent. Bachelor's degree is desired.
  • 0-2 years of experience or strong interest in technical field work, construction, or equipment installation.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting heavy equipment, climbing ladders, working at heights, and working in confined spaces.
  • Willingness to work outdoors, in radar rooms, and at active operational sites.
  • Ability to follow instructions, safety procedures, and technical guidance from senior staff.
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to learn new technical skills.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to FAA sites nationwide.
  • US Citizenship to successfully complete a government background investigation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in construction labor, cable installation, or technical field support.
  • Basic familiarity with hand tools, power tools, and material handling equipment.
  • OSHA safety training or general construction safety knowledge.
