Entry Level Field Surveyor 


Role Description: Huitt-Zollars has a great full-time opportunity for an Entry Level Surveyor at our Rio Rancho, New Mexico office. This role will support the Survey Party Chief in the field as required for field survey work. No experience required. Must enjoy and have physical capabilities to work outside in the elements. 


Location: Rio Rancho, NM 

Reports to: Survey Party Chief 

Employment type: 40 hrs/Full-time

Compensation Type: Hourly


Duties:

  • Support the Survey Party Chief in the field as required for field survey work for a wide array of projects such as boundary, topographic mapping and construction staking and other tasks.
  • Ensures the safety of personnel and equipment.
  • Searches legal records, survey records, and land titles to obtain information about property boundaries in areas to be surveyed.
  • Assist with preparing preparation of all data, charts, plots, maps, records, and documents related to surveys.
  • Assist with verifying accuracy of field survey data including measurements and calculations conducted on survey projects.
  • Assist with quality control checks of plats and drawings prepared by other technicians.
  • Ensure schedules and productivity objectives set by a supervisor for preparation of survey plats and drawings are achieved.

  • Understands, follows, and enforces Huitt-Zollars' business process.
  • Productively collaborates with others and leads or encourages teams to achieve success and camaraderie amongst each other.
  • Understands and follows HZ QMS and Quality initiatives. Ensures quality control measures are being adhered to on projects and daily operations.  
  • Understands duties and responsibilities, possesses necessary job knowledge and technical skills, maintains job knowledge current.
  • Assist with appropriate administrative and project support tasks supporting the needs of the project team and office. 
  • Complete assignments on-time, within budget, and with highest level of quality. 
  • Routinely proposes and produces more effective ways to accomplish assignments.  

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Willingness to learning topographic surveying.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Enjoy being outside and have a good work ethic.
  • Solid listening, writing and verbal communications skills.
  • Capable of using Microsoft Office suite with excellent communication skills.
  • Ethical and professional in manner, attitude and dress.
  • Ability to operate motorized equipment.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer, type/key-in data.
  • May lift and carry up to 50 pounds, hike up and down steep slopes carrying up to 50 pounds of survey equipment.
  • The employee must be able to concentrate on details, work under deadline pressures, apply sound logic and judgment, and prioritize tasks and responsibilities.
  • Employee may be asked to walk on uneven terrain.
  • May work in extreme weather conditions.
  • Bend, squat, dig monument holes, pound in stakes and rebar monuments.
  • Carry and use brush-cutting equipment.
  • May drive survey vehicle.
