For more than 60 years, Barton & Loguidice, D.P.C., has served the consulting engineering needs of municipal, industrial and institutional clients across the northeast. We are a growing multi-disciplined firm of professional engineers, architects, environmental scientists, geologists, planners and landscape architects headquartered in Syracuse, NY, with branch offices throughout New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Connecticut and Maine. B&L specializes in transportation engineering, water supply, wastewater management, solid waste management, land planning and site design, environmental services, facilities engineering, land surveying and asset management. B&L is currently recruiting for all levels of Maine DOT Construction Inspectors; Class I (Entry Level & Interns), Class II, Class III and Class IV (Resident) Inspectors. Inspector will generally be assigned to Maine DOT construction projects and will support the Class II, Class III or Class IV Resident Inspector and construction managers. Inspector positions are typically seasonal with the goal of long-term, seasonal construction employment with Barton & Loguidice. There are opportunities throughout the state of Maine which may require overnight and weekend work. There also may be opportunities for seasonal or part-time inspection work on municipal transportation infrastructure projects.
Responsibilities & Duties May Include
  • General construction inspection and completion of daily inspection reports
  • Measurement and documentation of construction activities to ensure compliance with MDOT standards and specifications.
  • Basic field testing
  • Computation of quantities.
  • Use of State Construction Management Software (or ability to learn)
  • Other duties as assigned, specific duties may include: Hot Mix Asphalt paving inspector, Poured-in-Place Concrete installations, signs and marking, erosion & sedimentation control, utilities, guardrail, or performing basic inspection of general construction activities.
  • Communications and meetings with Maine DOT and/or consultant supervisors.

Requirements
  • Experience in construction inspection or related field required and/or equivalent education. Class 1 entry level & Intern positions do not require previous construction experience.
  • NETTCP paving certification preferred
  • ACI concrete certification preferred
  • Knowledge of Maine DOT standards
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to follow verbal and/or written instructions to perform tasks independently and produce neat and accurate reports
  • Commitment to working with integrity and in an ethical manner
  • Ability to maintain safe work practices in a fast-paced work environment
  • Must be dependable, good-natured and willing to work 8 to 10+ hours per day
  • Work is mostly outdoors; and candidates will be on their feet most of the day
  • Valid driver's license: daily use of candidate's personal vehicle required, Mileage reimbursed at MDOT standard rate.
  • Overnight, overtime, and weekend work may be required.

Estimated Pay Range: $25-45/hour.
Actual compensation may vary based on related work experience, geographical location and market conditions, education/training, certifications, and other credentials, as well as applicable knowledge and skills.
