Overview
The Department of Surgery at Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences at Old Dominion University is seeking an outstanding Medical Assistant to join the team.
The Medical Assistant is an entry-level position responsible for assisting healthcare providers in delivering high-quality patient care in a surgical practice. This role involves performing basic clinical and administrative duties while learning the front and back-office workflows and protocols of the practice.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare patients charts in EMR
  • Obtain patient vital signs, advising patients to help them in keeping up with blood pressure, temperature, height and weight.
  • Assist physicians with examinations.
  • Schedule follow up visits making sure patients are aware of what the physician's next plan of treatment will be.
  • Document patient interactions and maintain accurate records in the electronic health record.
  • Clean and prepare exam rooms between patients.
  • Provide pre-op and post-op instructions as directed by providers.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications and Skills:
  • Successful completion of a medical assistant program (or equivalent military training) and active certification (CMA, CCMA, or RMA) is required. No prior experience required; entry-level candidates encouraged to apply.
  • Must have some working knowledge of computers.
  • Customer service-oriented individuals are required.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • High school diploma preferred.
  • Previous medical office experience with surgery experience performing relevant functions in a doctor's office preferred.
