Hyster-Yale Materials Handling, Inc, a world-class manufacturer of industrial lift trucks, has an outstanding opportunity for an energetic and innovative entry-level Electrical Engineer based at our Counterbalance Development Center (CBDC) in Portland, Oregon.
This position plays an important role in developing lift trucks and implementing robotic technology into current products by creating, modifying, and implementing solutions across multiple platforms. As a global team-member you will interact with all aspects of the organization; including manufacturing, procurement, and test, to ensure that we deliver quality trucks.
What you will do:
  • Design and develop electrical systems and components for industrial trucks, ensuring performance, durability, and reliability.

  • Translate vehicle-level requirements into detailed system and component specifications for new and existing products.

  • Test and validate electrical components both in laboratory environments and on actual trucks to ensure quality standards are met.

  • Analyze and resolve issues with electrical systems through root cause investigation and collaboration with cross-functional teams.

  • Document designs and evaluations, supporting manufacturing, marketing, and service departments for efficient product delivery.

Skills, Experience & Abilities
  • Basic understanding of electrical components, circuits, control theory, electric motor drive theory, power electronics, and battery management systems.

  • Ability to create system diagrams and electrical schematics.

  • Familiarity with automotive and industrial communication protocols, such as J1939 and CAN.

  • Ability and willingness to operate forklift trucks, with training provided if needed.

  • Basic skills in drafting, computer-aided design (CAD), design layouts, engineering analysis, and automotive technology.

  • Awareness of real-time control networks used for vehicle and industrial machinery.

  • Basic knowledge of control system design and architecture, including both hardware and software for embedded systems.
