Overview

Our customer, a leading utility engineering services provider, is seeking Electrical Designer I professionals to support a growing grid infrastructure program in Hampton and Chesapeake, VA.


This role focuses on preparing detailed electrical design drawings and supporting documentation for utility distribution systems. Candidates with strong AutoCAD experience and technical aptitude will be trained on utility design standards and processes.


Key Responsibilities

  • Create detailed design drawings, including wiring diagrams and layout drawings for utility projects
  • Perform drafting and design work using AutoCAD
  • Evaluate designs and supporting documentation to ensure compliance with industry standards and customer specifications
  • Support both overhead and underground electrical distribution design projects
  • Apply QA/QC processes to maintain accuracy and quality of deliverables
  • Plan and manage assigned design work independently
  • Collaborate with supervisors and team members to meet project deadlines
  • Continuously learn and apply customer-specific standards and processes
  • All other duties as assigned.



Required Qualifications

  • Experience using AutoCAD (required)
  • Strong mathematical skills, including geometry and trigonometry
  • Ability to learn and apply technical standards and design processes
  • Strong attention to detail and quality-focused mindset (QA/QC)
  • Ability to manage tasks independently and meet deadlines
  • Strong communication skills



Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Autodesk AutoCAD
  • GIS experience
  • Basic knowledge of electrical distribution systems (overhead and underground)
  • Familiarity with utility regulations, codes, and standards
  • Ability to develop custom AutoCAD applications or enhancements
