As a Direct Support Professional (DSP), you will play a vital role in providing support, care, and assistance to individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (I/DD) as prescribed in the Person-Centered Support Plans (PCSP) and per agency policy. Your primary responsibility is to ensure the well-being, safety, and development of individuals with I/DD, while promoting independence and fostering a positive and inclusive environment.

ESSENTIAL POSITION JOB RESPONSIBILITES/DUTIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Individualized Support:

  • Provides individualized direct care support services as outlined in consumer's Person-Centered Support Plan
  • Reports consumer progress daily and as required by the Person-Centered Support Plan
  • Attends to the personal needs of each consumer in a timely and efficient manner. Such duties include feeding, restroom needs, dressing, medication administration, and first aid needs.
  • Assists with and/or monitors all Work Center tasks and assignments.
  • Transports consumers via motor vehicle or assists with arranging public transportation.

Skills Development:

  • Assists in fostering independence by teaching and reinforcing life skills, vocational skills, and social skills.
  • Provides a professional environment while assisting individuals in resolving behavior issues and disagreements.
  • Provides situational counseling/problem solving and/or role-playing as needed.

Vocational Support:

  • Redirects and encourages individuals to remain on task while focusing on their goals and objectives.
  • Teach life skills, work ethic, and explore activities that will increase and/or retain mental agility.
  • Assists in keeping the TECHnology lab computers and equipment in operational order, install/uninstall hardware/software, and set computers up on the network to create a learning environment.
  • Trains and supports consumers in the TECHnology lab with computer skill development, programming, life skills, and/or educational material as assigned.

Community Integration:

  • Facilitates and participates in community outings, social activities, and events to promote inclusion and integration.
  • Supports individuals in developing social skills and meaningful relationships within the community.

Health and Safety:

  • Ensures the health and safety of individuals under your direct care.
  • Administers medication in accordance with established protocols and guidelines.
  • Assists consumers in maintaining a safe working environment by following processes in place for any facility or vehicle maintenance issue and/or safety concern.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Maintains open and clear communication with team members, supervisors, and other stakeholders.
  • Constructively communicates inter-departmentally to ensure seamless service delivery.
  • Collaborates with healthcare professionals, families, and other internal/external parties to ensure coordinated and comprehensive care and support.
  • Maintains professional behavior and communications at all time.
  • Provides special coverage, as needed, within the Day Services Department and other departments, including Residential homes in times of inclement weather, doctor's appointments, and job coaching.

Documentation:

  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date records of daily activities, progress notes, and any incidents per agency policy.
  • Completes additional required documentation in compliance with organization and regulatory standards.

Advocacy:

  • Participates in advocacy for the rights of individuals with I/DD.
  • Participates as an active and contributing member of consumer's Person-Centered Support Plan team.
  • Participates in the PCSP meetings, as required, and contributes to insights for individualized planning.

Attendance:

  • Regular and reliable worksite attendance.
