Description
New York University's Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor to begin on September 1, 2026. The appointed faculty member will be a member of the Department of Physical Therapy.
The position is in the Department of Physical Therapy with a mission to provide innovative physical therapy education that assures currency with the changing health-care environment. Our program offerings include: 1) Entry-level doctor of physical therapy (DPT) degree, 2) DPT for practicing physical therapists, and, 3) research-intensive PhD. The Department will celebrate its centennial anniversary in 2027 and has a long history of leadership and innovation.
Faculty in the Department of Physical Therapy have a robust portfolio of extramural funding and wide-ranging collaborations with NYU Langone Medical Center, Grossman School of Medicine including the Rusk Rehabilitation Center and other NYC hospitals, as well as many other NYU schools including but not limited to the Center of Health and Rehabilitation Research (CoHRR) at NYU Steinhardt, and NYU Tandon School of Engineering.
NYU Steinhardt is a uniquely interdisciplinary school, committed to a holistic understanding of people and human development across the lifespan. NYU Steinhardt has one-of-a-kind integration of education, communication, health, and the arts, with eleven departments, seventeen research centers and institutes, nearly 300 full-time faculty and close to six thousand students.
Responsibilities: The successful applicant will engage in strong programmatic research; disseminate cutting-edge science; pursue and obtain grant funding; teach in the DPT and PhD programs; advise graduate students in Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Sciences; and actively serve the Department, School, and University.
Qualifications
Candidates should hold New York State physical therapy licensure (or New York State license eligibility) and an academic doctorate. Post-doctoral research training is highly desirable. We seek individuals who have or have the potential to develop a strong record of scholarship, leadership, curricular innovation, and an excellent funding record. In addition, applicants should have a demonstrated record of, or the potential for, excellence in teaching and mentoring.
