Job description
Bayshore HealthCare is one of the country's leading providers of home and community health care services and is a Canadian-owned company. With locations across the country, including more than 80 home care offices, 11 pharmacies, and over 100 community care clinics, Bayshore has more than 18,000 staff members and provides care to over 350,000 clients annually.
As a Community Support Worker, you will support adults with developmental disabilities, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), and/or Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) to live safely, independently, and meaningfully within their homes and communities. Responsibilities include assisting with activities of daily living, personal care, meal planning and preparation, housekeeping and homemaking tasks, medication reminders, community participation, appointments, social and recreational activities, and the development of independent living skills.
The successful candidate will build respectful, person-centred relationships that promote dignity, choice, inclusion, and quality of life while supporting each individual's unique goals and strengths. Community Support Workers play an important role in helping clients participate fully in their communities, develop life skills, foster meaningful relationships, and achieve greater independence.
While community inclusion and skill development are important aspects of the role, a significant portion of support is currently focused on homemaking, housekeeping, organization, decluttering, and helping clients maintain safe, healthy, and functional living environments. Successful candidates will be comfortable providing hands-on homemaking, cleaning, organization, and household support, including working in homes that may be cluttered, disorganized, or require extensive organization and decluttering assistance.
Please note: This is a part-time position averaging approximately 15 hours per week. This role requires regular travel to support clients throughout Nanaimo, Duncan, and surrounding communities. Applicants must possess a valid BC driver's license and have access to a reliable vehicle. Mileage reimbursement is provided for approved work-related travel.
Key Responsibilities
Provide compassionate, person-centred support to adults with developmental disabilities, ASD, and/or FASD. Â
Assist clients with homemaking tasks including cleaning, laundry, dishes, tidying, organizing living spaces, decluttering, and maintaining a safe and healthy home environment.
Support clients in developing housekeeping routines, organizational skills, and independent living practices.
Support clients with meal planning, grocery shopping, meal preparation, and other household management tasks.
Assist with activities of daily living, including personal care, hygiene, grooming, dressing, and medication reminders as required.
Support participation in appointments, errands, recreational activities, and community-based opportunities.
Build positive, respectful relationships that promote dignity, independence, and quality of life.
Maintain professional boundaries while following care plans, documenting services, and reporting safety concerns or changes in client needs.Â
Education Requirements      Â
Community Support Worker Diploma or equivalent.
Current Emergency First Aid and CPR Certification.
        Current Food Safe Certificate.
Relevant education in Human Services, Social Services, Disability Support, Community Living, Health Care Assistance, or a related field is considered an asset.Â
Experience & Qualifications
Minimum 2 years of experience supporting adults with developmental disabilities, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD), or other complex support needs.
Experience providing homemaking, housekeeping, household management, personal care, and activities of daily living support.
Comfortable working in diverse home environments, including homes requiring significant cleaning, organization, and decluttering support.
Experience supporting individuals to develop independence, life skills, healthy routines, and meaningful participation in their homes and communities.
Strong communication, organization, and relationship-building skills.
Ability to work independently, maintain professional boundaries, and follow individualized care plans.
Experience using person-centred, strengths-based, trauma-informed, and positive behaviour support approaches is considered an asset.
Valid BC driver's licence and access to a reliable vehicle are required.
Ability and willingness to travel regularly throughout Nanaimo, Duncan, and surrounding communities to support clients in their homes and community settings.
Additional Requirements
Comfortable performing hands-on homemaking and housekeeping duties, including cleaning kitchens and bathrooms, laundry, vacuuming, mopping, decluttering, and general household organization.
Comfortable working in homes with pets, odors, clutter, and other environmental challenges while maintaining professionalism, respect, and a non-judgmental approach.
Flexible availability, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
