Structural Engineering Assistant

Midsouth Steel โ€“ College Park, GA

Midsouth Steel, a leader in structural steel fabrication and erection for over 25 years, is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Structural Engineering Assistant to support our engineering department at our facility near the Atlanta airport.

This is an excellent opportunity for an entry-level engineering professional or recent graduate interested in gaining hands-on experience in structural steel design, modeling, and engineering coordination while working directly with a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) on real-world projects.

Position Summary

The Structural Engineering Assistant will provide technical and administrative support to the PE engineer in the development, review, and coordination of structural steel engineering tasks. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and an interest in structural steel systems, engineering software, and project coordination.

Responsibilities
  • Assist the PE engineer with engineering-related IT tasks and software coordination.
  • Utilize Bluebeam to prepare drawing markups, calculation markups, comments, and review notes.
  • Assist with structural modeling and analysis of steel structures using RISA-3D.
  • Perform steel connection calculations using RAM Connection and RISAConnection under the supervision of the PE engineer.
  • Assist with calculations for structural steel stair members, canopy members, steel railings, and related steel components.
  • Help prepare, organize, and maintain engineering calculation packages and project files.
  • Assist in reviewing drawings, details, and calculation files for consistency, accuracy, and completeness.
  • Support scheduling, task tracking, and engineering workflow coordination.
  • Coordinate with the PE engineer to follow up on pending reviews, markups, calculations, and project deadlines.
  • Perform additional entry-level structural engineering and coordination tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Associateโ€™s or Bachelorโ€™s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Construction Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related field preferred.
  • Strong interest in structural steel design and engineering.
  • Familiarity with structural engineering software such as RISA-3D, RAM Connection, RISAConnection, or similar programs is preferred.
  • Experience with Bluebeam Revu or AutoCAD is a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
