What are entry level desk jobs?

Entry level desk jobs are positions that typically require minimal prior work experience and involve performing administrative or clerical tasks at a desk, such as data entry, answering phones, scheduling appointments, or assisting with office operations. These roles are common starting points for individuals beginning their professional careers and can be found in a variety of industries. Entry level desk jobs help employees gain valuable office skills, experience team collaboration, and learn workplace protocols, often serving as a stepping stone to more advanced roles.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an entry level desk employee, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Entry Level Desk employee, you generally need strong organizational skills, basic computer proficiency, and at least a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with office software (like Microsoft Office Suite), email systems, and possibly phone or scheduling systems is typically required. Excellent communication, attention to detail, and a customer-oriented attitude are standout soft skills for this role. These abilities are crucial for efficiently managing administrative tasks, supporting team workflow, and ensuring positive interactions with clients or colleagues.

What are some common challenges faced by entry level desk employees, and how can they be overcome?

Entry level desk employees often face challenges such as adapting to a fast-paced office environment, managing multiple tasks simultaneously, and learning new software or company-specific procedures. To overcome these, it’s helpful to prioritize tasks, seek feedback from supervisors, and take advantage of any training or mentorship opportunities offered. Building good communication skills and staying organized can also make transitioning into the role smoother and help employees grow more confident in their responsibilities.

Job description

Hotel Front Desk Team Member | All Shifts Available

Company: Peppertree Hospitality Group

Shifts: Morning, Afternoon, & Overnight (Full-Time / Part-Time)

Be the First Smile Guests Remember and Join the team

At Peppertree Hospitality Group, our front desk team is the heartbeat of the hotel. You are the first person guests see when they arrive and often the last person they talk to before they leave. That means this role actually matters.

We are looking for a friendly, dependable, and detail-oriented Front Desk Team Member to create a welcoming experience for our guests. Hotel experience is helpful, but absolutely not required. If you bring reliability and a great attitude, we will train you on the rest. (Shocking, I know—a job posting that doesn't require 12 years of experience to answer a phone.)

Why You’ll Love Working With Us

We believe good work should be noticed and rewarded. We offer a supportive environment, steady work, and real benefits designed to help you feel valued both on and off the clock.

  • Cash Attendance Bonuses: Earn a $100 monthly bonus just for meeting basic attendance requirements. During peak summer months, this doubles to $200/month because we know showing up during the busy season matters.
  • 401(k) Employer Match: We help you build toward your future instead of watching your paycheck vanish into gas, groceries, and subscription services you forgot existed.
  • Free Mental Health & Wellness Program: Access to free support—because life doesn't magically become simple just because you clocked in.
  • Healthcare Options: Eligible team members have access to healthcare benefits, including Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA) support.
  • Hotel & Travel Perks: Enjoy employee discounts on hotel stays and travel.
  • $5 Name Bonus Program: Earn continuous bonuses for referring qualified candidates or names through our recruiting program.
  • Room to Grow: We promote from within. The front desk is the #1 launching pad for leadership, sales, operations, and general management.

Pick Your Pace: Shifts Available

Hotels are open 365 days a year—because apparently, guests continue traveling even when the calendar says we deserve rest. All shifts may include some weekends and holidays as needed.

Shift The Vibe Best Fit For...

Morning Energetic & organized Early Risers who enjoy managing check-outs, setting up breakfast success, and getting the day moving.

Afternoon Bustling & social People Persons who thrive on a busier pace, checking guests in, managing reservations, and solving problems.

Overnight Calm & independent Night Owls who are dependable and comfortable working independently while supporting overnight operations.

This Is Not a “That’s Not My Job” Hotel

We will be upfront: You will not be sitting on an island behind a desk all day.

At Peppertree, we operate as one team. When the front desk is busy, management and housekeeping step in to help you. In return, when the desk is quiet, our front desk team helps fold laundry, restocks towels, checks the lobby, or tidies common areas to keep the hotel guest-ready. We jump in for each other, support each other, and keep the hotel moving together.

What You’ll Do Day-to-Day

You are part guest service, part problem-solver, and part "somehow keeping the hotel moving while five things happen at once." Your day will include:

  • Greeting guests with warmth and a genuine, hospitality-first attitude.
  • Checking guests in and out efficiently while handling basic computer systems and payments.
  • Answering phones, assisting with reservations, and answering local travel questions.
  • Handling guest requests or issues calmly, patiently, and professionally.
  • Supporting the team by assisting with light laundry, towel restocking, and lobby tidying during downtime.
  • Communicating seamlessly with housekeeping and maintenance to ensure room readiness.

What We’re Looking For

You don't need to know everything on Day One. You just need to show up, care, and be ready to learn.

  • Experience: Previous customer service, retail, restaurant, or hotel experience is a plus, but entry-level candidates with great attitudes are encouraged to apply.
  • Skills: Comfortable using computers, clear communicator, and detail-oriented.
  • Work Ethic: Reliable, punctual, and a genuine team player who doesn't mind rolling up their sleeves to help another department.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to stand/sit for extended periods, use a computer/phone, walk through team areas, and lift/move light items (like stacks of towels or linen bundles).

Ready to Be Part of the Team?

If you are friendly, dependable, and ready to work with a team that actually supports each other, we would love to meet you.
