Job description

Commercial Journeyman Electrician

Build quality commercial projects. Work with a dependable team. Grow with an established Chicagoland electrical contractor! NDP Electric, Inc. is a Merit Shop commercial electrical contractor performing work throughout Chicago and the surrounding suburbs.

NDP Electric, Inc. is hiring experienced commercial electricians, including commercial journeyman electricians and strong mid-level electricians, for full-time field positions throughout Chicago and the surrounding suburbs.

We are seeking skilled electricians who take pride in their work, show up consistently, and want steady, long-term employment. This is not an entry-level position, but we do not require a specific number of years in the trade. Demonstrated commercial electrical experience, field competency, dependability, and attitude are what matter most.

Our Work

• Commercial tenant improvements
• Retail stores and national brands
• Restaurants and hospitality spaces
• Office and corporate interiors
• Industrial and warehouse facilities
• Ground-up construction and building renovations
• Electrical services, feeders, panels, and distribution
• Lighting, lighting controls, equipment connections, and specialty systems

Our project locations vary throughout Chicago and the surrounding suburbs. Team members gain experience across many types of projects rather than performing the same repetitive work every day.

What You Will Do

• Install complete commercial electrical systems from demolition and rough-in through trim-out and final testing
• Install EMT, rigid conduit, PVC, flexible raceways, boxes, supports, conductors, devices, fixtures, panels, feeders, and equipment connections
• Read and interpret electrical drawings, architectural plans, reflected ceiling plans, schedules, specifications, and field information
• Perform layout, conduit bending, branch circuitry, lighting installation, lighting controls, service work, troubleshooting, and electrical distribution work
• Coordinate professionally with foremen, project managers, general contractors, inspectors, customers, and other trades
• Recognize field conflicts, communicate problems early, and help develop practical, code-compliant solutions
• Maintain safe, clean, organized, and professional jobsites
• Work effectively both independently and as part of an established commercial field crew

What We Are Looking For

• Meaningful commercial electrical construction experience
• Journeyman-level ability or strong mid-level field competency
• Ability to bend and install conduit accurately, including offsets, saddles, kicks, and multi-conduit installations
• Ability to read plans, understand circuiting, follow layouts, and complete assigned work with limited supervision
• Experience with commercial lighting, controls, receptacles, equipment circuits, panels, feeders, services, and distribution systems
• Strong troubleshooting ability and practical field judgment
• Reliable transportation and willingness to travel between project locations throughout Chicagoland
• Appropriate hand tools and personal protective equipment
• Strong attendance, punctuality, communication, and accountability
• Ability to work safely from ladders and lifts and perform the physical duties of commercial electrical construction

What Sets a Strong Candidate Apart

The strongest candidates do more than make an electrical system function. They produce clean conduit installations, plan before beginning work, protect finished spaces, maintain organized work areas, communicate clearly, and care about the final product.

Leadership experience is encouraged. Electricians who demonstrate technical ability, dependability, sound judgment, and leadership potential will have opportunities to take on greater responsibility as the company grows.

Join NDP Electric

NDP Electric offers steady commercial work, diverse project experience, and opportunities for long-term growth. We are looking for electricians who want to become valued members of the company—not simply move from one short-term project to the next.

This is a full-time field position. Work locations vary throughout Chicago and the surrounding suburbs based on the active project schedule.

NDP Electric, Inc. is an equal opportunity employer. Bilingual English/Spanish candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.
