Eversource supports work-life balance by offering hybrid schedules for certain roles. Eligibility is based on job responsibilities, operational needs, nature of work and team dynamics. These guidelines apply to roles approved for remote work and are subject to change, based on managerial discretion and work performance. All applicants must be able to work up to five days in the office if needed (for example: emergencies, training, or other business needs) or should the policy change.
The IT Analyst, Data Governance supports the IT Data Governance and Information Management Program by working directly with business units to understand how unstructured data is created, used, stored, shared, retained, and secured. This role acts as the bridge between business stakeholders and the technical governance/protection teams, helping translate operational needs into well-defined requirements, use cases, taxonomies, control needs, and sustainable business processes.
The analyst will engage with business data owners and staff to identify information management gaps, clarify data usage patterns, document business requirements, support taxonomy and classification discussions, and recommend practical solutions for repositories, information handling, and control adoption. The role is aligned with the individual contributor/lead template structure and is intended for a candidate who is strong in analysis, stakeholder engagement, documentation, and problem-solving within a business-facing IT environment.
Essential Functions:
  • Partner with business units to understand the purpose, usage, storage, access, retention, and sharing patterns of unstructured data across collaboration platforms, file shares, and repositories.
  • Conduct interviews, workshops, assessments, and discovery sessions with business data owners and subject matter experts to identify current-state practices and gaps.
  • Elicit, document, and manage business requirements related to records identification, retention, sensitivity, access, sharing controls, business purpose, disposal, and information handling.
  • Ask for appropriate data taxonomy, labeling, lifecycle, ownership, and control questions to ensure business requirements are complete and actionable.
  • Translate business needs into user stories, requirement documents, process flows, decision trees, and implementation recommendations for governance and technical teams.
  • Facilitate conversations around Microsoft Purview-related controls in business-friendly language, including labeling, access constraints, retention approaches, and protection behaviors.
  • Identify opportunities to improve repository strategy and recommend more effective or modernized solutions where legacy approaches no longer align with current business needs or risk expectations.
  • Support remediation planning by helping business areas prioritize cleanup, classification, retention alignment, and governance improvements.
  • Develop process documentation, communications materials, FAQs, stakeholder guides, and business-facing training support.
  • Assist in preparation for data discovery, audit support, cyber response readiness, tabletop scenarios, and control validation activities.
  • Monitor progress of business workstreams and support issue identification, dependency tracking, and follow-up actions.
  • Maintain organized documentation and evidence to support governance, auditability, and repeatable process execution.

  • Working knowledge of data governance, records retention, information classification, unstructured data management, repository strategy, and information protection concepts.

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Purview concepts and the ability to explain governance and protection controls to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical skills for organizing and summarizing complex information.
  • Strong communication, facilitation, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to create process documentation. Flowcharts, RACI models and business requirements artifacts.
  • Skilled in Excel, PowerPoint, Word, SharePoint, and related collaboration/documentation tools.

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Systems, Information Management, Library/Records Science, Compliance, or related discipline; or equivalent experience.

Experience:
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of relevant experience in business analysis, data governance, compliance, records/information management, process improvement, or related roles.
