Entry Level Data Analysis information

What are some common challenges entry-level data analysts face when starting out, and how can they overcome them?

Entry-level data analysts often encounter challenges such as learning new data tools, understanding unfamiliar datasets, and translating business questions into analytical tasks. It's common to feel overwhelmed by the variety of software (like Excel, SQL, or Python) and the pace of real-world projects. To overcome these hurdles, new analysts should proactively seek mentorship, participate in team discussions, and take advantage of online resources or internal training. Regular collaboration with colleagues and asking clarifying questions can help build confidence and ensure successful project contributions.

What is an entry level data analyst?

An entry level data analyst is a professional who collects, processes, and performs basic analysis on data to help organizations make informed decisions. They typically work with tools like Excel, SQL, or data visualization software to organize and interpret data sets. Entry level analysts focus on tasks such as cleaning data, creating reports, and identifying trends, usually under the supervision of more experienced analysts. This role is ideal for recent graduates or individuals starting their career in data analysis.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Entry Level Data Analyst, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Entry Level Data Analyst, you need foundational knowledge in statistics, data interpretation, and a relevant degree such as in mathematics, economics, or computer science. Familiarity with tools like Microsoft Excel, SQL, and data visualization platforms such as Tableau or Power BI is typically required. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and clear communication help you extract meaningful insights and present findings effectively. These skills are crucial for transforming raw data into actionable information that supports informed business decisions.

Job description

Description

Scope:

The PCB Data Preparation Specialist (CAM Operator) is responsible for the accurate preparation, validation, and conversion of customer-supplied PCB design data into manufacturing-ready formats that support efficient production. This role focuses on executing established CAM processes, including data cleanup, penalization, and tooling file generation, to ensure all jobs meet defined manufacturability and quality standards. Working within a structured production environment, the CAM Operator supports daily throughput by processing jobs in a timely manner, identifying and correcting data discrepancies, and ensuring outputs are aligned with internal specifications and customer requirements. This position plays a key role in maintaining data integrity and production readiness, while collaborating with internal teams to ensure smooth workflow from design intake through manufacturing release.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Perform and support a range of CAM tooling activities, including quality control (Q/C) review, rout programming, and coordination of outsourced tooling tasks with external partners (e.g., offshore teams).
  • Develop and generate manufacturing tooling for standard PCB designs in accordance with established internal specifications and customer requirements, ensuring accuracy and completeness of all deliverables.
  • Receive, review, and analyze customer-supplied design data, evaluating against Design for Manufacturability (DFM) guidelines; identify discrepancies and provide clear, actionable feedback to support production readiness.
  • Execute data corrections and resolve design rule violations by performing edits to single-image data, including feature adjustments, vendor markings, and customer-specific modifications as required.
  • Panelize PCB designs and prepare manufacturing outputs for various production systems, including photoplotters, NC download systems, electrical test platforms, and AOI (Automated Optical Inspection) CAM systems.
  • Create and maintain NC (Numerical Control) programs for drilling and routing operations, including scoring, milling, and beveling, ensuring alignment with fabrication requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with internal teams, customers, and external service providers to resolve data-related issues, clarify technical requirements, and ensure alignment with manufacturing capabilities.
  • Provide day-to-day tooling support for both standard and moderately complex PCB designs, ensuring jobs are processed accurately and released to production on schedule.
  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts by supporting script testing, process updates, and cross-training initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and team knowledge.

Requirements

Essential Qualifications:

  • CAM Operator I (Entry Level) - Prior PCB manufacturing experience preferred; equivalent technical experience or training will be considered.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet production deadlines.
  • Must be available to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as required to support production demands.

Physical Requirements:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, climb stairs, and reach with both hands and arms.
  • The employee is regularly required to communicate verbally and listen effectively, as well as perform repetitive motions associated with computer-based work.
  • The employee is frequently required to sit for extended periods while working at a computer workstation.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. These visual capabilities are essential for detailed data analysis, as well as for performing keyboarding, mouse navigation, filing, and document handling tasks accurately.
