Job description

SJS Executives, LLC (SJS), also doing business as SJS Industrial, is currently seeking an experienced Junior Interior Designer to work full time, on-site, for SJS Executives supporting ongoing construction operations at a local Veteran’s Affairs Hospital in El Paso, Texas.

SJS Executives is a Service-Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) with 250 employees coast to coast and a headquarters in Virginia Beach, Virginia; we specialize in professional services to support federal and military organizations.

Pay range for this position is $40/hr to $45/hr. Benefits that are also included: 80 hours of accumulated PTO, Medical, Dental, Vision, Short term disability, Long term disability, Critical Illness, and accident.

Responsibilities:

  • Support Senior Interior Designers and project managers with interior design services for healthcare facilities, ensuring compliance with VA standards, healthcare design guidelines, and project requirements.
  • Assist in planning and coordinating interior design projects from concept development through installation for renovation, maintenance, capital improvement, and construction projects.
  • Prepare construction documents, finish schedules, furniture plans, material boards, specifications, and presentation materials under the direction of senior staff.
  • Assist with Furniture, Fixtures & Equipment (FF&E) planning, furniture inventories, procurement support, installation coordination, and asset tracking.
  • Coordinate paint, flooring, ceiling, lighting, wall coverings, casework, window treatments, cubicle curtains, artwork, and finish selections for healthcare environments.
  • Develop and maintain finish schedules, room data sheets (RDS), material libraries, and design documentation consistent with VA design standards.
  • Assist with space planning by developing functional layouts that support patient care, operational efficiency, accessibility, and healthcare workflows.
  • Support Room Data Sheet (RDS), Project Room Contents (PRC), equipment layouts, and VA Space Equipment Planning System (SEPS) documentation.
  • Review finish samples, shop drawings, product submittals, and mockups for compliance with project specifications under the supervision of senior designers.
  • Participate in site visits, field verification, punch walks, and installation inspections to verify design intent and quality.
  • Assist with project activation activities including furniture installation, departmental relocations, and occupancy coordination.
  • Help prepare owner turnover documentation, Operations & Maintenance (O&M) manuals, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and project closeout documentation.
  • Maintain project files, specifications, drawings, budgets, schedules, vendor information, and material libraries.
  • Coordinate with architects, engineers, contractors, consultants, vendors, and facility staff throughout project development.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary meetings supporting facility planning, construction, patient safety, infection prevention, and accessibility initiatives.
  • Research products, materials, finishes, furnishings, and healthcare design trends that promote durability, sustainability, infection prevention, and ease of maintenance.
  • Communicate project updates and design recommendations to project team members while escalating issues to senior staff as appropriate.
  • Perform other interior design and project support duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications:

  • In accordance with federal regulations, possession of a valid Real ID is required for this position.
  • Bachelor's degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, or a closely related field from an accredited program.
  • One (1) to three (3) years of professional interior design experience preferred; healthcare design experience is a plus.
  • Internship or entry-level experience supporting commercial, institutional, or healthcare interior design projects preferred.
  • Working knowledge of interior design principles, space planning, color theory, furniture systems, finish materials, and building products.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office Suite, and Adobe Creative Suite preferred.
  • Experience assisting with construction documents, finish schedules, specifications, and FF&E documentation preferred.
  • Basic understanding of building codes, ADA accessibility requirements, life safety standards, and healthcare design guidelines.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and multitasking skills with the ability to support multiple concurrent projects.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively on multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to learn VA design standards, healthcare planning processes, and facility activation requirements.
  • Ability to conduct site visits, field verification, and furniture or finish inspections as needed.
  • Must satisfy all applicable federal, VA, and facility-specific credentialing requirements.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a drug test and a thorough background investigation for access to a military installation; please note the background investigation for this position extends beyond seven (7) years in accordance with federal law and U.S. Department of Justice guidelines.
