What is entry level copywriting?

Entry level copywriting refers to writing advertising and marketing content for businesses, typically by individuals who are new to the field. These roles often focus on creating product descriptions, blog posts, social media captions, email campaigns, and other promotional materials under the guidance of more experienced copywriters or marketing managers. Entry level copywriters are expected to have strong writing skills, attention to detail, and an understanding of persuasive language, even if they lack extensive professional experience. The position is a great way to learn about branding, target audiences, and the fundamentals of digital marketing. It also offers opportunities to build a portfolio and advance to more senior copywriting roles.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an entry level copywriter, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Entry Level Copywriter, you need strong writing, grammar, and research skills, often supported by a degree in English, communications, or a related field. Familiarity with content management systems (CMS), basic SEO tools, and digital editing platforms like Grammarly or Hemingway Editor is typically expected. Creativity, adaptability, and the ability to accept feedback are standout soft skills for this position. These skills ensure you can produce engaging, error-free content that meets client objectives and adapts to evolving marketing needs.

What are some common challenges faced by entry level copywriters, and how can they overcome them?

Entry-level copywriters often face challenges such as adapting to various brand voices, meeting tight deadlines, and receiving constructive feedback on their work. To overcome these hurdles, it's helpful to study successful examples of copy within your organization, actively seek mentorship from experienced writers, and remain open to feedback as a tool for growth. Building strong communication skills and being proactive about asking questions can also help new copywriters quickly acclimate to the fast-paced, collaborative environment typical in marketing or advertising teams.

How do I become an entry level copywriter with no experience?

To become an entry level copywriter with no experience, focus on developing strong writing skills through practice and studying copywriting principles. Building a portfolio of sample work, such as blog posts or ads, and gaining familiarity with tools like Google Docs or Grammarly can help demonstrate your abilities to employers. Internships, freelance projects, or online courses can also provide valuable experience and improve your chances of starting in the field.

Experienced Marketing Coordinator

Avery Marketing Agency is seeking an experienced, hands-on Marketing Coordinator to execute and coordinate the daily marketing needs of up to 20 client accounts.

This is not an entry-level position, an internship, or a role focused only on strategy and meetings. The person hired will be responsible for completing a significant amount of the actual marketing work. Applicants must have proven professional experience in digital marketing and be prepared to manage a high volume of work with limited training.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute day-to-day marketing work for up to 20 client accounts
  • Write, create, schedule, and publish social media content
  • Build and maintain monthly content calendars
  • Create professional, on-brand graphics and short-form videos
  • Update websites and publish new pages, blogs, images, and other content
  • Perform keyword research and complete on-page SEO work
  • Set up, manage, monitor, and optimize Google Ads campaigns
  • Review Google Analytics, Google Search Console, and advertising results
  • Manage Google Business Profile updates and posts
  • Assist with email campaigns, landing pages, and lead-generation efforts
  • Prepare monthly marketing reports and identify areas for improvement
  • Coordinate projects with videographers, photographers, designers, clients, and other team members
  • Develop production schedules, content plans, and video shot lists
  • Collect client information, approvals, photos, videos, and other required materials
  • Track deadlines, revisions, approvals, and outstanding assignments
  • Conduct quality checks before publishing content or launching campaigns
  • Follow each client’s strategy, branding, and established marketing plan
  • Manage competing priorities without sacrificing accuracy or missing deadlines

Required Qualifications

  • At least two years of professional digital marketing experience
  • Demonstrated experience managing marketing work for multiple businesses or accounts simultaneously
  • Professional experience with social media management and content creation
  • Hands-on experience with Google Ads, including campaign setup and optimization
  • Working knowledge of Google Analytics and marketing performance reporting
  • Proven understanding of SEO and website content optimization
  • Strong copywriting, editing, and proofreading skills
  • Experience creating professional graphics in Canva or Adobe Creative Suite
  • Excellent organization, time management, and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and complete assignments without constant supervision
  • Ability to manage a demanding workload and consistently meet deadlines
  • A portfolio or work samples demonstrating relevant marketing experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous marketing agency experience
  • Experience supporting 10 or more client accounts at one time
  • Experience with Meta Business Suite and Meta Ads Manager
  • Experience with Google Search Console and Google Business Profile
  • Experience using WordPress or another website management platform
  • Basic photo and video editing experience
  • Familiarity with email marketing and project-management platforms
  • Relevant degree, certification, or advanced digital marketing training

Who Should Apply

This position is best suited for an experienced digital marketer who enjoys completing the work, staying productive, and managing a detailed list of responsibilities. You should be comfortable moving quickly between different clients, industries, platforms, and priorities throughout the day.

You must be able to demonstrate that you have personally created content, managed digital campaigns, completed SEO work, updated websites, and evaluated marketing performance in a professional setting.

Who Should Not Apply

This role will not be a good fit for applicants who:

  • Have no professional marketing experience
  • Are seeking their first marketing position
