The technician position is responsible for day-to-day operation and maintenance of the pipeline system while demonstrating specialized expertise in one the following functional areas: compliance, compression, controls, corrosion, measurement, or pipeline. In addition, the technician will demonstrate task expertise in two supporting functional areas.
BHE Pipeline Group consists of Berkshire Hathaway Energy's interstate natural gas pipeline companies, BHE GT&S, Kern River Gas Transmission Company and Northern Natural Gas Company. Combined, BHE Pipeline Group operates approximately 21,200 miles of pipeline with a design capacity of approximately 21.1 billion cubic feet of natural gas per day, owns assets in 27 states and is an industry leader in natural gas transportation. Ability to learn/use specialty computer programs and equipment, fluke test equipment for measurement calibration and analysis; compressor alignment software and equipment; turbine and compressor performance analysis software. Effective analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to identify facility operating issues and take necessary corrective actions. Must be 21 years or older, have a valid driver's license, be able to pass a commercial motor vehicle physical and be able to drive in adverse road conditions. Must be able to work in remote locations, often working alone, sometimes in adverse weather/hazardous working conditions. Must be proficient with hand tools, be able to push/pull, walk, climb stairs and ladders, do some heavy lifting, work overhead and in cramped quarters. After-hours work as needed and routine on-call rotations subject to 24-hour a day callout are mandatory with some out-of-area travel requirements. Requires carrying a company-provided cell phone and laptop computer.
Essential job functions include duties and responsibilities of entry level technicians and must be proficient in three specialty areas and demonstrate seasoned expertise in order to progress to the next level. Applies a thorough knowledge of pipeline facility preventive maintenance and work described under the Kern River operations job progression system. Responsible for handling natural gas related to turbine compression and all related subsystems, meter stations, pipeline facilities, corrosion control and right-of-way maintenance. Performs maintenance, troubleshooting and repair on turbine control packages, cathodic protection systems, gas quality equipment, gas measurement equipment, facility communications equipment and pipeline facilities. Handles facility encroachment activities including pipeline location, excavation, and inspection resulting from one-call notifications and/or direct calls. Interfaces with technical support, government agencies, local emergency planning committees, emergency responders, one-call agencies, landowners and contractors. Performs public education activities including formal presentations.
