Job description

The Fleet Ballistic Missile program at Strategic Weapons Facility Pacific (SWFPAC) in Silverdale, Washington is seeking an Associate Safety Engineer to support local field site operations. The focus of this entry-level role is to develop and apply your ability to recognize, evaluate and eliminate/control occupational health hazards or environmental stressors and to ensure applicable safety standards are adhered to in areas including (but not limited to) HAZMAT, ordnance handling, injury reporting, fall protection, lock-out tag-out, ergonomics, and electrical/mechanical safety.
You will report directly to the Senior Manager of Base Management, and take daily tasking from the Safety Team Lead. You will assist the team in daily tasks as you become a subject matter expert and help identify opportunities to direct action and optimize Safety at the facility.
Successful candidate must be flexible to accept some variation in work scope and shifts based on Production needs. You may be asked to be on-call for safety investigation purposes and at times may need to extend work schedule to manage related unplanned events. Travel for this position is minimal, 10% or less.
An example of duties includes, but is not limited to:
Research industry standards such as OSHA, NIOSH, ANSI, or locally implemented documentation to prepare rules, standards, and procedures as necessary to promote healthful work practices.
Manage Database for all ESH forms and coordinate administrative processes for hazardous, industrial, and universal waste
Review proposed surveys for new installations or changes to work instructions and escalate incompatibilities with maintaining a safe work environment.
Maintain partnerships across the customer site and internal/external LM organizations.
Audit programs and conditions at this and potentially other facilities; providing written reports of findings with recommendations for improvement (where needed) and follow up on implementation.
Develop new and creative methods to increase employee awareness of, and engagement in, ESH compliance programs/initiatives promoting a strong ESH culture across SWFPAC.
