Job Title: Environmental Specialist/Fit Tester (Entry Level)

Location: Manhattan. NY

Starting Pay: Up to $25/hr for entry level


Contract or Contact to Hire - 6 month contract and possibly direct hire

We are seeking a Respiratory Protection Fit Tester to support healthcare personnel by conducting quantitative and qualitative respirator fit testing in accordance with OSHA requirements and the organization’s respiratory protection program. The Fit Tester will ensure employees are properly fitted and trained on approved respiratory protection equipment before performing work that requires respiratory protection.

This role requires strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work directly with clinical and non-clinical healthcare personnel in a professional healthcare environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct respirator fit testing for healthcare employees using approved quantitative and/or qualitative fit-testing methods.
  • Perform fit testing for N95 and other approved tight-fitting respirators in accordance with applicable OSHA requirements and organizational procedures.
  • Verify employees are medically cleared and have completed required training before fit testing.
  • Explain fit-testing procedures and respiratory protection requirements to employees.
  • Ensure employees select an appropriate respirator model and size based on fit-test results and organizational requirements.
  • Perform and document fit-testing results accurately and maintain required records.
  • Operate, inspect, clean, and maintain fit-testing equipment and supplies.
  • Identify and troubleshoot fit-testing equipment or procedural issues.
  • Educate employees on proper respirator donning, positioning, seal checks, use, and limitations.
  • Maintain compliance with OSHA respiratory protection requirements, including 29 CFR 1910.134.
  • Follow healthcare infection-control and safety procedures when working with employees and respiratory protection equipment.
  • Coordinate fit-testing activities with Occupational Health, Employee Health, Infection Prevention, Safety, Human Resources, and department leadership as needed.
  • Maintain confidentiality of employee information and testing records.
  • Assist with respiratory protection program audits, documentation, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Travel between healthcare facilities or departments as required.


Qualifications

  • BS degree in Environmental related field
  • Ability to accurately follow testing protocols and document results.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with employees across clinical and non-clinical departments.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle employee information appropriately.

Skills that you will learn on the job

  • Experience with quantitative respirator fit testing.
  • Experience using PortaCount or similar fit-testing equipment.
  • Experience working within a hospital, healthcare system, occupational health, or employee health environment.
  • Familiarity with N95 respirators and other healthcare respiratory protection equipment.
  • Experience supporting an OSHA-compliant respiratory protection program.
  • Previous occupational health, industrial hygiene, infection prevention, or workplace safety experience.
