Introduction

Delaware's Attorney General, the State's chief law enforcement officer, has a broad responsibility to combat crime, uphold civil rights, safeguard families, fight fraud, and protect consumers in the First State. In meeting this mission, Attorney General Kathy Jennings is supported by teams of talented lawyers and staff in the Criminal, Civil, Family, Fraud and Consumer Protection, and Civil Rights and Public Trust Divisions. Each of the more than 500 staff who work in the Office of the Attorney General are dedicated to serving all Delawareans with integrity and passion. Deputy Attorneys General, with critical support from criminal special investigators, victim service specialists, paraprofessionals, and administrative staff, prosecute criminal cases, enforce consumer laws, provide counsel to state agencies, ensure the public's access to open government, protect the abused, and much more.

Job Summary

The Delaware Department of Justice seeks an exceptional and highly motivated individual to join the Consumer Protection Unit within the Fraud & Consumer Protection Division in the New Castle County office as a Deputy Attorney General. The Consumer Protection Unit has enforcement authority over more than 40 state and federal laws, focusing on the Consumer Fraud Act and the Uniform Deceptive Trade Practices Act (Title 6 of the Delaware Code). It prosecutes civil and administrative cases and conducts multistate investigations in coordination with other statesโ€™ attorney general offices.

  • Pay Grade 12 (DAG I): Salary Range $86,664 - $95,329
  • Pay Grade 14 (DAG II): Salary Range $100,562 - $105,468
  • Pay Grade 16 (DAG III): Salary Range $111,069 - $116,050
  • Pay Grade 18 (DAG IV): Salary Range $122,094 - $130,056
  • Pay Grade 20 (DAG V): Salary Range $137,215 - $147,318
Essential Functions
  • Handle all phases of litigation and enforcement actions, including working with special investigators, drafting pleadings, conducting discovery, and negotiating settlements.
  • Try cases before a jury, judge, or administrative hearing officer.
  • Manage complex litigation across all Delaware courts and negotiate resolutions of consumer complaints.
  • Provide consumer education to the public and collaborate with state and governmental agencies on consumer protection issues.

Telework may be available for up to three days per week.

Qualifications
  • Record of solid academic achievement and relevant work experience.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Knowledge of finance or accounting is helpful but not required.
  • Strong commitment to public interest work.
  • Delaware Bar admission or willingness to take the next Delaware Bar exam.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
