Job description

Summary/Objective:

Members of the Finishing department are charged with developing the skills defined below by Flower City Group, while learning to perform the following task categories: job acceptance, make ready, job run, job completion and maintenance. Through these activities, Clamshell Operators will ensure the highest level of productivity is consistently achieved.

Schedule: A Shift, Monday - Friday 7:00am - 3:30pm, Overtime on weekends

Essential Functions:

Make Ready:

  • Review press & bindery ticket to completely understand work to be done.
  • Note any defects in the printing by reviewing any quality tags.
  • Verify size with proofs, die vinyl and ticket.
  • Set up machine – achieve proper cutting, scores, and register.
  • Have cut sample approved by a Senior Operator.

Job Run:

  • If helper is needed, explain job and have the person read the job ticket and bindery ticket.
  • Feed material into machine, cut sheets – check quality and position often.
  • Have helper assist by collecting die cut material, checking quality and position and packing.

Job Completion:

  • Complete load tag.
  • If needed, bring finished product to shipping.
  • Fill out bindery ticket.
  • Add in job tracking computer.

Maintenance:

  • Tear down die cutter, fill out die information sheet and return die.
  • Clean machine and area surrounding machine.
  • Complete any preventive maintenance.
  • The Senior Operator will be responsible for assisting other Operators, making any necessary repairs, and helping production with layouts.
  • Seeks guidance and direction as necessary for performance of duties.
  • Demonstrates good judgment in investigating problems.
  • Respects the confidentiality of company information.
  • Maintains cooperative working relationship with supervisor.
  • Demonstrates ability to tactfully handle the difficult situations.
  • Makes best use of time during the workday.
  • Consistently shows ability to recognize and deal with priorities.
  • Perform all duties in an independent manner with little supervision.
  • Performs all other tasks/duties as may be assigned by their supervisor.
  • Recognizes and performs duties which need to be performed although not directly assigned – assists others as needed.

  • Machine operation
  • Self-starter with a willingness to learn new things.
  • Able to provide constructive feedback and creative solutions to problems.
  • Must be computer knowledgeable.
  • Must be able to perform simple programing.

  • Knowledgeable with measurements

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Experience operating a clamshell a plus

Physical Demands:

  • Regularly required to talk or hear.
  • Regularly required to sit, regular use of hands.
  • Frequently required to stand and walk.
  • Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and use foot/feet to operate machine.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • The employee must be able to work under pressure with ever changing deadlines and priorities.
