Department: Repairs

Reports To: Repairs Manager

Location: On-site - New Brighton, MN (Minneapolis/Twin Cities Metro)

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM-3:00 PM or 8:00 AM-4:00 PM

Pay: $16.00-$21.00/hr

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Why This Job

  • No professional experience required, paid training from day one
  • Hands-on bench technician work across Apple, Chromebook, Windows, and Surface devices
  • Clear growth path (L1-L3 tech levels) with opportunities to earn OEM and CompTIA certifications
  • Work for a mission-driven company that helps students and schools get the technology they need

About Us

Gophermods was founded in 2010 in Minneapolis, MN and has grown into a nationwide partner for schools and small to medium-sized businesses. We support every stage of the technology lifecycle - computer repair, device refurbishment, and professional services. Located in New Brighton, MN, just minutes from downtown Minneapolis in the Twin Cities metro, we're a small company with a big mission, guided by three values: set the standard, be curious, and thrive together.

Who This Role Is For

As a hardware technician, you'll spend most of your day at the bench - diagnosing, repairing, and refurbishing laptops, Chromebooks, MacBooks, iPads, Microsoft Surface devices, and desktops. This is structured, hands-on, repetitive work. Every repair follows a standard operating procedure. Every device gets a full QA check. Every workspace stays clean and organized.

We're looking for someone who:

  • Likes following a process and does it the same way every time
  • Takes pride in doing it right, not just getting it done
  • Can work at a steady, reliable pace with minimal supervision
  • Asks questions early rather than guessing
  • Wants to understand why a step exists, not just what to do

You don't need a technical background. If you come from assembly, quality inspection, warehouse kitting, food prep with standards, automotive work, or electronics as a hobby - you may be a great fit. If you've ever used an SOP, followed a checklist, or can describe a personal system you use to stay organized and consistent, we want to hear from you.

What You'll Do

Repair & Refurbish

  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair Chromebooks, MacBooks, Windows laptops, iPads/tablets, Microsoft Surface devices, and desktops
  • Perform common repairs such as screen and battery replacements and component swaps
  • Complete full device refurbishment workflows including cleaning, reassembly, and final QA testing using checklists to ensure consistent, high-quality results
  • Accurately review customer work orders and assess reported issues to identify the correct repair path
  • Rotate across device types (Apple, Chromebook, Windows, Surface) as project needs shift
  • Follow all quality control standards, ensuring each device meets required quality checks before moving to the next stage
  • Maintain a steady, productive pace while consistently meeting team quality and throughput expectations

Education & Business Projects / Provision & Deploy

  • Configure, image, and prep devices with white-glove care and enterprise-level precision
  • Stage, organize, package, and prepare devices for delivery

Logistics, Asset Care & Documentation

  • Record serial numbers/asset tags, repair notes, and device status updates accurately, and use company systems for ticketing, documentation, and basic workflow tracking
  • Handle parts, tools, and devices responsibly

Teamwork & Efficiency

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized workspace, and collaborate with teammates to streamline repair workflows and meet evolving client needs
  • Communicate proactively with your team when you encounter unfamiliar issues, bottlenecks, or quality concerns
  • Balance competing priorities and adapt to changing project needs while maintaining quality standards

Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • Experience: No prior professional technical experience required.
  • Reliable transportation to the Twin Cities warehouse location
  • Ability to work on-site Monday-Friday during scheduled shift hours
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to follow checklists, standard operating procedures, and structured workflows consistently
  • Basic computer literacy (comfortable navigating operating systems, typing, and using web-based tools)
  • Ability to lift up to 35 lbs
  • Ability to sit and stand for periods throughout the shift
  • Manual dexterity for working with small components, hand tools, and delicate electronics

Nice to have but not required

  • Previous experience in a repair, refurbishment, assembly, or quality inspection role
  • Some familiarity with computer hardware whether through prior work, coursework, self-built PCs, hobby repair, or personal tinkering
  • Exposure to Chromebook, Apple, or Windows device hardware

Benefits

  • 401(k) with 4% employer match
  • Health, Dental & Vision insurance (employer pays 50% of employee premium)
  • 100% employer-paid Short-Term and Long-Term Disability
  • 10 days PTO + 10 days unpaid time off + 1 floating holiday + major holidays off
  • Paid training + tech level progression (L1-L3) + path to OEM and CompTIA certifications
  • Parental leave and other legally required leave per applicable law
