Job description

Information System Analyst/Programmer

Location- Birmingham, AL/ Remote

Contract- 3 Years

Client- Alabama Power

Summary of Duties

This position will work with information system analysts and application developers in the Alabama Power Company’s Power Delivery Technology organization. Power Delivery (PD) Technology plays a vital role in Alabama Power Company's planned strategic direction and daily operations using GIS expertise and technology, web application development, and engineering experience to provide customer support across APC. This position is responsible for providing programming support to applications residing in the PD Technology group in accordance with PD Technology work procedures. 

This position will aid in the maintenance and updating of existing scripts, development of new code and/or applications, and other duties related to supporting the PD Technology GIS group as well as their customers. The successful candidate will be responsible for participating in a creative and highly motivated atmosphere, contributing toward product development, end-user support, and the creation of innovative GIS tools.  

Job Requirements

 

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in MIS, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field preferred
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • In the absence of a degree, a minimum of 3 years professional experience working in a Programming or GIS-related role performing analysis, coding/scripting/ programming, web development and/or application development is required.
  • Competency with standard computer software, to include Microsoft Office suite is required.

Experience

  • Demonstrated programming experience in various languages, Python preferred
  • Working knowledge of HTML and Javascript desired
  • Working knowledge of and experience using SQL
  • Experience using code repositories such as GitHub
  • Experience with one or more of the following is a plus: Esri GIS Desktop and Server Software, ArcPy, FME,
  • Proven ability to multitask and complete assignments under pressure/ tight deadlines is a necessity
  • Available to work 40 hours per week in an office environment from APC HQ in Birmingham, AL. Flexible to work remotely (from home) as well.

Job Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Understanding of programming theory and application
  • Working knowledge of Python, JavaScript and/or other programming languages
  • Understanding of GIS theory and application a plus
  • Broad knowledge of Remote Sensing, Global Positioning System (GPS), and the application of other GIS technologies a plus
  • Experience with ESRI software a plus
  • Efficiently utilize Microsoft Office including: Outlook, Word, Power Point & Excel
  • Possess strong decision-making abilities
  • Analytical approach to problem solving; creatively apply skillset to solve problems
  • Able to maintain focus on assigned tasks
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  •  Assignment Schedule: Schedule is flexible, 5-8’s or 4-10’s. They will start out with in the office for a couple weeks then be able to work remote and only come in as needed.
