Job description

As a Computer Technician for the North Colonie School District, you will provide essential entry-level technical support to students and staff. You will ensure the smooth operation of instructional technology, focusing on hardware maintenance, software troubleshooting, and user training.

Salary - $56,394


Core Responsibilities

  • Technical Support: Troubleshoot and repair hardware (PCs, Chromebooks) and peripherals (printers, Touchpanels) for staff and students.
  • Software Management: Install updates and/or resolve issues with Microsoft Windows OS, Google Apps Suite, and various educational software packages.
  • Training & Assistance: Provide hands-on guidance to help staff effectively use new software and technology in the classroom.
  • System Maintenance: Perform routine hardware maintenance and assist with network installation projects.
  • Inventory Control: Maintain accurate records of computer equipment and maintenance history.

Key Qualifications

  • Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with PCs, Chromebooks, and peripheral equipment.
  • Problem Solving: Abillity to search for resolutions to routine software/hardware issues independently.
  • Communication: Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate with educators and explain technical concepts to non-technical users.
  • Soft Skills: High levels of initiative, dependability, and resourcefulness in a fast-paced school environment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

  1. Graduation from an accredited college or university with at least a Bachelor's Degree in Electronic Data Processing, Computer Science or closely related field and one (1) year experience in the installation / maintenance / repair of computer equipment and systems; OR,

    1. Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate's Degree in Electronic Data Processing, Computer Science or closely related field and two (2) years of experience in the installation / maintenance / repair of computer equipment and systems; OR,

    2. Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and three (3) years of experience in the installation / maintenance / repair of computer equipment and systems.

NOTES: 

  • Successful completion of a three (3) credit semester hour course in college-level Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, or a closely-related field may be substituted for up to three (3) months of appropriate experience.
  • Successful completion of a course of study offered by a technical training institute, college or corporate training program may be substituted for one (1) year of appropriate experience, if the following conditions are met:
    • The course of training involves learning the fundamental aspects of Computer Programming, Systems Analysis, Telecommunications, LAN/WAN System Configuration or a similar course with technical emphasis on the operation of a connected computer system.
    • The candidate provides an official description of the coursework and evidence that it was successfully completed.
    • Following successful completion of six (6) months of probationary period/traineeship, individuals with permanent competitive class status as computer technician trainee mature to computer technician without further examination.
