Assistant Professor- Teaching- Basic Engineering
Wayne State University is searching for an experienced Assistant Professor- Teaching- Basic Engineering at its Detroit campus location.

Essential functions (job duties):
The Basic Engineering Program in the College of Engineering at WayneState University invites applications for a non-tenure-track AssistantProfessor (Teaching) position, with an anticipated start date of August2026.
The position is primarily focused on undergraduate teaching, withopportunities for engagement in pedagogical innovation and scholarship. Thesuccessful candidate will report to the Director of the Basic EngineeringProgram.
The successful candidate will:
Serve as the primary instructor for multiple sections of an entry-level course in applied probability, statistics, and introductory data science for undergraduate engineering students.
Develop and deliver engaging, student-centered instructional sessions that reinforce lecture content and emphasize applied learning.
Prepare and evaluate quizzes, examinations, homework assignments, and projects.
Maintain regular office hours and provide academic support to students.
Supervise and provide guidance to teaching assistants and graders.
Conduct course assessment and document student learning outcomes in accordance with accreditation requirements.
Collaborate with college leadership and administrative units to support recruitment, retention, and student success initiatives.
Maintain current knowledge of developments in statistics, data science, and engineering education.
Qualifications:
PhD required in Engineering, Statistics, or Engineering Education with demonstrated experience in probability and statistics.
Candidates with a master's degree will be considered at the rank of Instructor-Teaching.
Evidence of effective teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate level, or equivalent instructional experience.
Proficiency in Python programming
Experience utilizing AI-enabled tools in teaching, engineering education, or data analysis.
Familiarity with data analytics, data science, and machine learning concepts.
Demonstrated use of innovative, student-centered teaching methods.
Commitment to student success, service, and inclusive educational practices.
