SUMMARY

The Intern, Building Condition Assessor is an entry level position to the BGIS Professional Services team.  The Professional Services team is a multi-disciplinary group of engineers and technical staff that provide service across BGIS Accounts. These services include Asset Management, Building Science, Mechanical & Electrical Engineering, Energy Efficiency and Sustainability.  The Building Condition Assessor role provides valuable site evaluation and engineering judgement experience, working independently while being supported by a best in industry team of engineering professional. 

The position applies building condition assessment processes and technical standards in conducting asset assessments for the purpose of identifying asset condition and deficiencies. 

The output of this process is recommendations for Capital Project work leading to Project Management, Engineering Design and Construction Management roles.

Contract dates: September-December

Work arrangement: must be able to travel to Markham office, and must be comfortable with travel with senior team member to different sites

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Completes site visits at client real estate locations and performs building component identification and condition evaluation.
  • Completes reporting using BGIS software for use in RealAsset - our BGIS developed Asset Management software.
  • Provides recommendations and cost estimates for building envelopes, components and systems repair or replacement for inclusion in the capital budget plan.   
  • Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • University or college diploma in relevant technical field such as architectural, civil, mechanical electrical engineering, building science or building engineering.
  • General knowledge of the process of cost estimating for replacement and repair of building components and systems.
  • General knowledge of building science including base knowledge of all areas of study - architectural building envelope, mechanical and electrical building systems or site components.
  • General knowledge of general building design, construction and facility operation of commercial buildings.
  • Ability to work independently and learn quickly.
  • Strong written communication skills.
  • Proficient with MS Excel and ability to learn other applications quickly.
  • Strong computer skills. 
  • Detailed-oriented.

Licenses and/or Professional Accreditation

  • Enrolled as EIT,P. Eng, C.Tech or RET an asset.

"This is a full-time, contract position with a salary range of $23 - $26 per hour. The starting salary will be based on the successful candidate's competencies, including but not limited to experience, education and performance related to this role."
