Job description

The Lab Technician - Level I is an entry-level laboratory role responsible for performing routine chemical and mechanical material testing while supporting daily laboratory operations, quality assurance, production, and research and development activities. Reporting to the Laboratory Supervisor, this position plays an important role in ensuring the accuracy, timeliness, and reliability of laboratory testing. The Lab Technician - Level I is expected to follow established procedures, maintain a strong attention to detail, and demonstrate a willingness to learn and develop technical skills. This role works under direct supervision and collaborates with Quality, Production, and Engineering teams to support material verification and testing activities.
Location: Orrville, OH
Primary Responsibilities:

  • The Lab Technician - Level I performs routine chemical and mechanical analyses in accordance with written laboratory procedures, ensuring accuracy and consistency in all testing activities
  • Responsible for generating, recording, and reporting test results in a timely and accurate manner while maintaining proper documentation in compliance with laboratory standards
  • Assists in drafting work instructions and procedures as directed
  • Supports adherence to laboratory documentation rules and quality requirements
  • Maintains laboratory equipment, tools, and workspaces in a clean, safe, and organized condition
  • Promptly notifies the Laboratory Supervisor of any conditions that may affect safety, productivity, or quality
  • Supports material verification activities in collaboration with Quality, Production, and Engineering teams
  • Assists with procuring laboratory supplies and maintaining inventory levels
  • Supports general laboratory operations
Requirements
  • Candidates must possess a high school diploma
  • Zero to three years of laboratory or manufacturing experience, or an associate degree in a physical science or technical field
  • Basic computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Ability to follow instructions, manage time effectively, and handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills are essential
  • Solid analytical and organizational abilities
  • Candidate must be able to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds
  • Be authorized to work in the United States
  • Flexibility to work overtime or weekends on short notice is required
  • Familiarity with industry codes and standards such as ASME Section III and VIII, ISO 9001, ISO 17025, NQA-1, and 10CFR21 is preferred
  • Knowledge of basic chemistry techniques such as titration, gravimetric analysis, and solution preparation
  • Familiarity with mechanical testing methods including tensile, hardness, and impact testing preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and prior experience in a manufacturing environment are also beneficial
