About the Opportunity

This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Co., a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. [FEU Primary reporting locations are Akron, Ohio.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and update FirstEnergy steady-state loadflow models, with primary responsibility for one of FirstEnergy's three control areas.
  • Incorporate newly inservice facilities and forecast future system conditions.
  • Prepare, review, and maintain steady state contingency (CON) files for the FirstEnergy system.
  • Support power system modeling activities using Model On Demand (MOD) software.
  • Provide accurate supporting data for internal and external compliance activities, audits, and regulatory submissions.
  • Develop and recommend generator voltage schedules to Transmission Operations in support of reliable and efficient system performance.
  • Collaborate closely with Transmission Planning, Operations, Circuit Ratings, Short Circuit Impedances, Forecasting, and FirstEnergy Operating Companies to gather data and accurately model anticipated system conditions.
  • Respond to data and modeling requests from internal and external stakeholders in a timely and accurate manner.

Compare and validate system data across multiple information sources to identify and correct model errors.

Qualifications include:

Engineer II:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited institution is required. Acceptable alternatives are: (1) a Professional Engineer's (PE) License (2) a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited institution (3) a Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Civil or Mechanical Engineering or technical field of study (non-ABET) plus an advanced degree in Electrical, Civil or Mechanical Engineering from a university with an ABET accredited Bachelor's program. Electrical Engineering is preferred.
  • A Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Certificate is preferred.
  • Proficiency with industry modeling tools such as GE PSLF, PSSE, PSAT/VSAT, PowerGEM TARA, and familiarity with Model On Demand (MOD).
  • Prior experience with MOD is preferred.
  • Strong Excel skills; basic programming or scripting experience (e.g., Python) preferred.
  • Ability to work with multiple databases to enter, extract, and validate system data.
  • Experience supporting compliance activities and preparing technical documentation.
  • Strong analytical, problemsolving, and troubleshooting skills.
