Integrated Facility Services (IFS) is seeking a motivated, tech-savvy individual to join our growing Building Automation team. This is an excellent opportunity for an entry-level candidate with IT, programming, networking, or electronics experience who wants to apply those skills in a hands-on, real-world environment that directly impacts how commercial buildings operate.

If you enjoy problem-solving, working with both hardware and software, and seeing your work come to life in the field, this role may be a great fit.

Integrated Facility Services offers benefits including Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP), medical, dental, vision, 401k, paid time off, life insurance, disability insurance, and employee savings plan.

What You'll Do

As a Building Automation Systems (BAS) Specialist, you will help deploy and support the systems that control HVAC and other building equipment in commercial facilities. Responsibilities include:

  • Participating in the setup, configuration, and commissioning of automation controllers, servers, workstations, and related hardware used to operate building systems.

  • Assist with programming and implementation of building automation control logic based on written sequences of operation, control drawings, and project specifications.

  • Develop and maintain user-friendly graphical interfaces (operator dashboards) to display building operation, trends, alarms and equipment status for end users.

  • Support building automation system deployments by assisting with network connectivity, device communications, and basic IT infrastructure coordination (switches, VLAN concepts, IP addressing, DNS/DHCP, remote access, and cybersecurity best practices).

  • Support and train end users and facility teams on system navigation, basic operation, and best practices for managing their buildings.

  • Interpreting technical documentation such as submittals, cut sheets, network diagrams, point lists, and sequences of operation, and apply those requirements during system configuration and programming.

  • Coordinate multiple tasks and project assignments, track progress, communicate status, and meet deadlines while working independently and as part of a team.

  •  Manage and maintain backups of automation databases and system configurations, and support system updates as needed.

  • Interface with third-party IT providers and vendors to coordinate access, system requirements, and integration points related to building automation.

  • Supporting evaluation and rollout of new tools, software, and hardware platforms used by the building automation team

What We're Looking For

We encourage entry-level candidates to apply. The ideal candidate brings transferable skills from IT, software, networking, electronics, or related education and work experience, and is motivated to learn building automation and controls.

Qualifications include:

  • Demonstrated exposure to programming through coursework, projects, or work experience, including both block-based and line-based programming concepts

  • Familiarity with one or more languages such as HTML, JavaScript, Python, C++, or similar, with the ability to learn proprietary building automation programming tools.

  • Ability to read and understand technical documentation, including structured specifications, sequences of operation, network diagrams, and product documentation, and translate requirements into configuration or programming tasks.

  • Basic understanding of IT infrastructure and networking concepts, including computer networking fundamentals and troubleshooting steps.

  • Working knowledge of computer hardware, software, and operating systems, including installing applications, configuring settings, managing updates, and diagnosing common issues.

  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects or tasks at one time, prioritize effectively, and follow through to completion.

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, including communicating clearly with customers, vendors, and internal team members.

  • Professional communication skills, both verbal and written, including the ability to prepare clear and concise documentation, correspondence, and reports.

  • Strong attention to detail, including accurate documentation, clear labeling, and consistent file management.

  • Punctual, dependable attendance habits, professionalism, and the ability to maintain confidentiality of trade information.

  • Availability to work outside normal business hours on occasion to support project needs, troubleshooting, or scheduled cutovers.

  • Ability to safely use standard office equipment and computer support systems, and willingness to be trained on industry-specific software tools (graphics, configuration, documentation, and CAD-related platforms).

  • Ability to use standard hand and electrical tools used in the controls business, or willingness to learn as required for the role.

Why Join IFS?
  • Work on real-world systems that directly impact commercial buildings and facilities

  • Grow your technical skill set in programming, networking, and controls
