Job description

Job Description Summary:

This is entry-level computer servicing, moderate level warehouse and delivery work, and providing field service to voting locations. Work requires knowledge of basic computer, printer, and problem-solving techniques.
An employee in this class will be assigned to the Board of Elections and actual job duties may vary dependent upon election activity needs. In general, employees perform voting system equipment election preparation under strict supervision and direction Election duties under general supervision according to statutes, regulations, and established practices and procedures. During Early Voting and Election Day employee will have extensive public contact.
Work is primarily physical in nature requiring bending, stooping, reaching, and assist with lifting of voting system machines weighing approximately 30 lbs. Employees will also be required to complete forms, record observations, and assist with basic clerical functions.
Working hours are generally 8:30AM - 4:30PM, but may include early mornings, late evenings, and limited weekends.
*In order to obtain this position, you must be a registered voter in the state of Maryland.*

Job Description:

BUDGETED SALARY: $21.00/HOUR

Examples of Duties:

(The following examples illustrate the work performed in the positions in the class. Positions may require some or all of these examples depending on the organization of work within the department. The list is not inclusive. A position may require related duties not listed, if necessary, to accomplish the work of the department.)

I. Can identify and connect USB ports, network cables, and power cords. Troubleshoot basic desktop computer issues (i.e. power, connections, reboot, and proper connections).
2. Maintain detailed logs recording observations and issues, perform basic word processing and data entry.
3. Provide assistance to Election Judges and staff with voting system equipment, assist in the delivery and setting up voting system equipment and signage for Early Voting and Election Day at the polling locations throughout Harford County.
4. Assist Election Staff with Election preparation which may include routine administrative assistance, packing equipment, signs, and/or forms.
5. Assists staff and Election Judges with troubleshooting polling place issues and accessibility to the polling place at Early Voting and on Election Day.
6. Travel between assigned polling locations on Election Day to provide assistance to Election Judges and Election Office staff.

Minimum Qualification Requirements:


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS. AND ABILITIES:

  • Possess a working knowledge of the computers, peripherals, and basic troubleshooting desktop concepts.
  • Basic knowledge of Harford County's roads and/or the ability to read a map or use GPS.
  • Good organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills along with good writing and oral communication skills.
  • Possess the ability to apply training and procedures in a dynamic environment.
  • A general mechanical aptitude in order to prepare voting system equipment for the election process.
  • Ability to make and record objective observations.
  • The ability to work in a group or independently as required; and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability to organize and sort a large volume of data and documents.
  • May assist with lifting 30pounds.
  • Must have a reliable vehicle, a valid driver's license, and a personal cell phone (Mileage paid for Early Voting and Election Day).

EDUCATION:
Possession of a high school diploma or GED Certificate is preferred.

EXPERIENCE:
No experience is required but election experience is preferred.

Must comply with all Federal (OSHA), State of Maryland (MOSH), safety regulations and applicable Harford County safety policies, procedures, or manual as required for this position.
