Tech - Medical (ASCP/REG)

Under the general supervision of the Technical Coordinator, the Tech - Medical (ASCP/REG) assumes the responsibility for performing waived and non-waived complexity analysis of patient specimens for diagnostic purposes, and related procedures in the areas of assigned responsibility under the philosophy, policies and procedures established by the hospital and the Department of Laboratory Services. Such responsibilities encompass not only the internal functioning of the Department, but also the integration of the Department into the overall functioning of Northwest Texas Healthcare System. The Tech - Medical (ASCP/REG) supports an organizational culture of Service Excellence and practices the Service Excellence standards to all customer groups.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Practices the profession of clinical laboratory science in the area(s) of assigned responsibility according to accepted standards of practice as outlined by the College of American Pathologists (CAP), CLIA '88, Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, American Association of Blood Banks (AABB), and other regulatory agencies as appropriate, and according to the approved policies and procedures of the organization, department, and/or the laboratory Medical Director.
  • Actively participates in the structure, review and revision of policies and procedures.
  • Monitors quality control data and instrument maintenance.
  • Participates in and supports a process to measure, assess, and performance improvement in areas of assign responsibility.
  • Performs clinical laboratory procedures in any one or combination of specialty areas of the laboratory optimizing the efficiency and quality of pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical laboratory procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Education, Training, Experience and Licenses/Registrations Required:
    • Minimum Education: Baccalaureate degree in medical technology, biology, chemistry, or related science required. In lieu of Baccalaureate degree, employee may qualify with 15 years or more experience in a CLIA certified laboratory.
    • Minimum Work Experience: One year clinical laboratory internship required
    • Certifications: ASCP, AMT, and/or NCA preferred or eligible
    • Mathematical, computer, reasoning, and language skills at the college level required
  • Physical and Sensory Requirements:
    • Ability to read, write, and converse in English
    • Ability to follow instructions, reason, and make appropriate judgments
    • Ability to perform computer functions accurately and quickly
    • Ability to perceive pertinent details and objects in pictorial or graphic material
    • Ability to perceive pertinent details from verbal and tabular material
    • Ability to coordinate eyes, hands, and fingers in order to make skillful, accurate, and precise movements
