Job description

Health Information Management Specialist

This is not a remote position.

The Health Information Management (HIM) Specialist is primarily responsible for the chart analysis function, both quantitative and qualitative. This includes review of the medical record for accuracy and completeness, and the assignment of provider deficiencies, ensuring timely completion and adherence to regulatory agencies. This position will assist providers with completion of records, validate the completion of all deficiencies assigned and collect data related to record completion necessary for regulatory reporting and hospital operations. Included in this position is the gathering of information from all relevant sources, including electronic and reconciliation of paper documentation. This position also provides office support to all other positions in the HIM Department.

Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma/Equivalency Required; College courses or HIM degree- preferred;
  • Previous experience in a HIM department – hospital experience preferred;
  • Previous experience with an electronic medical record system – Meditech preferred;
  • Analytical skills necessary to review and assess documentation for deficiencies in medical record;
  • Strong computer skills with willingness to learn various computer software applications;
  • Troubleshoots, possesses analytical and comprehension skills of technical information;
  • Knowledge of HIPPA Privacy & Security rules as they relate to keeping PHI confidential and secure;
  • Ability to operate scanning hardware, fax machine, photocopier, microfiche, telephone and other basic office equipment;
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Email, and Internet;
  • Demonstrate excellent communication (verbal and written), teamwork and customer service;
  • Work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Detail-oriented and multitasking in a fast pace ever changing healthcare environment.
  • Flexibility, assignments will vary from day to day dependent upon the needs of the department.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology – preferred.
