Job description

Job Description The Role

Calibration engineers help turn engineering requirements into real-world vehicle performance. You’ll work with vehicle systems, software, hardware, controls, and test data to tune system behavior and verify that features and diagnostics perform as intended. This is a hands-on role with opportunities to work in vehicles, laboratories, test benches, dynos, automation environments, and simulation platforms. This position is designed for an early-career engineer who enjoys learning, investigating complex problems, and collaborating across disciplines. You’ll receive support from experienced engineers while building skills in vehicle development, controls, data analysis, troubleshooting, and performance verification. A typical week may include: Performing in-vehicle calibration and testing
Analyzing data from driving maneuvers conducted in simulation, on a dyno, in a lab, or in a vehicle
Tuning system responses and identifying opportunities to improve controls
Troubleshooting issues with vehicle systems, hardware, and software
Working with algorithm, controls, software, hardware, and program teams
Balancing planned development activities with emerging issues and priorities


What You’ll Do

  • Develop and optimize calibrations to meet performance, diagnostic, timing, and robustness requirements using GM calibration standard work.

  • Review calibrations and test results to help ensure quality and consistency.

  • Plan and coordinate calibration activities with the Lead Calibrator and Diagnostic Strategist.

  • Help identify the tools, equipment, test vehicles, data, and other resources needed for calibration development.

  • Diagnose and correct vehicle, system, controls, lab, plant, and customer issues.

  • Use analytical tools to develop, evaluate, and verify calibrations.

  • Develop, use, and improve calibration procedures.

  • Participate in controls working groups and support the development and refinement of algorithms.

  • Support the development and testing of new vehicle features and functions by translating requirements into test cases.

  • Evaluate engineering changes and determine their impact on verification testing.

  • Participate in peer reviews of test plans, considering hardware, software, system architecture, and portfolio impacts.

  • Identify opportunities to automate or virtualize calibration and verification activities, and help implement those solutions.

  • Support development vehicle fleets through troubleshooting, testing, and data collection.

  • Perform root-cause analysis for issues identified during verification testing and document findings in the Problem Resolution Tracking System (PRTS).

  • Participate in development trips and related testing activities.

  • Follow all safety precautions and requirements, making safety the top priority in every work activity.


Required Qualifications

  • Pursuit of a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in one of the following areas: Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Computer Engineering

  • Must be graduating between Dec 2026 – June 2027

  • Must be able to work in southeast Michigan

  • Able to work fulltime, 40 hours per week


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with propulsion, vehicle controls, software development, and vehicle integration

  • Proficiency in MATLAB and experience with data acquisition and analysis

  • Experience with test automation tools such as Python or Autobot

  • Strong technical writing skills, including engineering evaluation reports

  • Automotive-related experience through Formula SAE, EcoCAR, or similar programs or clubs

Work Arrangement

Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Milford, MI, three times per week, at minimum or other frequency dictated by the business.
