Job description

ASRC Federal Advanced Research supports the FAA NAS SLES (Second Level Engineering Services) contract.  Join our growing team as a Network/Security Engineer in support of the FAA’s SWIM Terminal Data Distribution System (STDDS). 

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining secure network infrastructures to protect an organization’s systems, data, and communications from cyber threats
  • Design and implement secure network architectures (LAN, WAN, VPN, SD-WAN)
  • Configure and install routers, switches, firewalls, and other network devices
  • Conduct vulnerability assessments and penetration testing remediation
  • Perform network maintenance and system upgrades (patches, firmware updates)
  • Maintain documentation of network configurations and processes
  • Research and design hardware and software systems or enhancements to existing systems or networks.
  • Provide technical guidance in the procurement of new equipment and services.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation.  This documentation shall describe software functions, maintenance requirements, and maintenance techniques.
  • Provide support for hardware, firmware, and software acquisition, development, distribution, and installation.
  • Perform analysis, design, programming, and testing in support of proposed acquisitions of operational and support software.  The integrity of the original design implementation, program function, and maintainability shall be protected.
  • Ensure that hardware and software changes are performed in a thorough and complete manner to enhance future maintainability.
  • Develop and execute detailed plans, schedules, and related activities to test, debug, and validate subroutine, module, and software systems.
  • Provide engineering support to operational field sites for implementation and issue resolution. 

Requirements:

 

US Citizenship or Permanent Residency required. All applicants must have resided in the United States for the past 3 years.

On-site presence will be as required by the FAA.

  • Bachelor of Science in an Engineering discipline; will give consideration to other technical degrees such as computer science, mathematics, physics, aerospace or chemistry but requires accreditation by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET)  
  • Network experience is desired
  • Linux experience at the user level is desired
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with a focus on customer responsiveness
  • Ability to pass an FAA background investigation

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science from an ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) accredited program in an Engineering discipline; consideration given to other technical degrees such as computer science, mathematics, physics, aerospace or chemistry.
  • Proficiency with computer operating systems, software and hardware with proven ability to debug complex systems and to conduct reviews, audits, and testing.
  • Preferred Linux experience
  • Working knowledge of UNIX-like Operating Systems (i.e., Linux, Solaris, IRIX) and operating system administration (i.e., Red Hat Enterprise / CentOS Linux)
