About This Position:
This position supervises and oversees Electronic Technicians responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, and connectivity of solid-state microprocessor traffic signal controllers and related fiber optic communication systems statewide. The role includes responding to emergency system failures, supporting traffic control and surveillance communications, and ensuring all equipment operates efficiently and safely. The incumbent must work independently, interpret and resolve unforeseen issues, and participate in ongoing training and professional development related to traffic signal and communication systems.
While in official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Services laws, rules and regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals, and directives.

Minimum Qualifications
Four years of experience or training in the maintenance or repair of mechanical or electronic office equipment, precision machinery, or electronic/electrical systems; OR
Four years of experience or training in the installation, repair, or maintenance of computer equipment or systems (hardware and/or software); OR
Possession of a CompTIA A+ Certification plus one of the following:
1. Three years of experience in the maintenance or repair of mechanical or electronic office equipment, precision machinery, or electronic/electrical systems; OR
2. Three years of experience in the installation, repair, or maintenance of computer equipment or systems (hardware and/or software).
EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every six semester hours earned from an accredited college or university in electronics or computer science will substitute for one year of the required experience.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must possess an appropriate Federal Communications Commission (FCC) radio-telephone license when working with marine and aviation transmitting equipment or with radar.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
  • Supervises the programming, testing, troubleshooting, debugging, installation, and repair of traffic signal controller cabinet components, including microprocessors, conflict monitors, communication modems, fiber optic network systems, detection equipment, antennas, repeaters, and Intelligent Transportation Systems devices.
  • Performs final inspections and approvals for traffic signal cabinet builds and controller programming, oversees traffic signal turn-on inspections for state construction and permit projects, and ensures staff are properly trained on all controller and cabinet components.
  • Manages daily operations by scheduling work assignments, approving employee leave, assigning and tracking service calls, counseling and developing employees, and preparing performance evaluations for assigned staff.
  • Programs and maintains statewide traffic signal controller inventories and databases using embedded software, microcomputers, and specialized electronic testing equipment, while conducting statewide field inspections and installations to ensure safe and efficient traffic signal operations.
